one of my bigest problems is far to many stock cocks that i paid big money for and have all bred me first prize winners but are getting on in years now and i have sons and daughters off them breeding winners and would like to breed more off the younger stock which are not getting a chance to shine be cause there old man is still breeding the goods and the very best of the old jan aarden blood that i paid 500 and 600 pounds each for dbl grandsons of invincible spirit debarceloana smarged one and two you just cant get this blood anymore that breed winners and breeders of winners it pains me to think of it but i might have to let some go to make way for there sons to take over in the stock loft so have to think about it apart from that its try and do everything the same as last year and stay out of hospital which buggerd up my young bird season as i could not get them worked intime for racing and by the time i caught up the season was over its amazing how much 2 or three weeks out can set you back in the doo game

Walter, try to find a fairly experienced trusty newer start who would be glad of your birds. If the correct fancier / fanciers are to be found, loan the birds to them on the understanding that the YB's are shared for the full term of the loan.

This provides the double benefit that you still have YB's from them and the newer starter gets a lift from you for his efforts.

If your changes include the fittings within your lofts, be it perches, boxes, feeders, grit stations, baskets, louvres, food savers, ets traps ect. Please feel free to get in touch. I can make most things, and they have been very well commented on, and are very good prices. I use the best of materials, which make them the best on the market.

Good luck with all your alterations.

I have ended the season with more cocks that I had planned for so I must change things to accommodate them. I have decided to send to the Nationals and the longer overseas races with a team I will select for the job. Another team will stay the same as now and do the sprints.

I am looking forward to the new challenge and I hope that I can find a winning streak so that I don't let the birds down.

My changes for next year were done this year, bred less Yb's so i will have a smaller but better quality birds for Ob season next year. Like some others i have too many stock birds, first time i've ever been in this position, so some of them will have to go too.

I wont be changing much in 2014, just maybe try and get a few more away to the channel races.Got a few minor changes to be done to the loft as well and maybe try widowhood with 6 yearlings but basic system will be the same. :001:

I am not trying to upset you but your loft does not have enough air flow. I can't see the ventilation inside properly but on the assumption that there is a gap at the back of the loft you need to open up the lower front. I think you should cut apertures of about 24"x12" every 4' along the front. I would then fit light upward opening doors over the apertures and attach some light rope to them fixed to a staple under the front of the trapping area to open and close the doors but also to hold them open. Then inside the loft I would fit some mesh covered sliding doors to open upwards to keep the birds in but also to act as apertures to load the birds into crates for training. Then providing that the birds can sit in the direct sunlight in the trapping area your loft will keep your birds much healthier. You may think that the loft gives you enough air now because there is air entering the loft through the trapping area. I am 100% sure that it does not and your pigeons will improve greatly if you can open up some air flow. Don't worry about the pigeons getting cold because although the cold is inconvenient for you it will not worry them. Just empty the drinkers at night and refill them in the morning and everything will work well.
