Wiley Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 WHAT A SHOCK I HAD THIS MORNING! All my Thurso representatives were sent sitting chicken eggs to Thurso. To my shock this morning when entering the loft my good Thurso Cock was sitting on the nest, and a little baby chick was sitting next to him. Haven't a clue what to do with it, will give it to a local chicken man down the road, I would rear it if I knew how.

They are able to eat chicken crumbs from birth, but they do have zoonooses with pigeons, so better to give to the chicken man than risk cross infection.
billt Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 They feed themselves so they are easy to rear, chick crumbs or you can start with crumbled biscuit, It will need feeding by now, normally they need some heat but indoors in a box should be fine this weather and water of course
billt Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 Out of interest, where did the eggs come from?

Guest paulrstokes Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 they do have zoonooses with pigeons Whats this mean?????
Guest IB Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 they do have zoonooses with pigeons Whats this mean????? It normally means a disease that can be transmitted from an animal to humans, but I think in this case its meant that chickens and pigeons can infect each other, which is also correct.
Kyleakin Lofts Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 they do have zoonooses with pigeons Whats this mean????? Zoonooses are illnesses that are able to be transferred from one species to another. For instance, dogs that have roundworm are able to pass them to humans. Toxicara canis in dogs becomes toxicariasis in humans. The spellings may not be completely correct, but the information is correct. The chances of cross-infection vary from species to species and condition to condition, but it is known that such examples exist.
