If This Young Bird Dropped At Your Loft, What Would You Do?

about two weeks ago i had the young birds out and had trouble dropping them and ended up leaving one out, for it to be nowhere to be seen until tonight when he's dropped looking a picture and feeling perfect. with a few grains of corn inside him. he's the same as when he left, minus his name and address ring and white clip ring. Obvious to me that some fancier has had him in, Either trying to settle him, or having already settled him, training him. Annoying the fact the bird had my number on and i would have quite happily sorted something out with him weather it to be keep the bird, or breed him something from him or his parents. the sire to the yb in question is probs the best bird in my loft.

you never know your y/b may have ended up many miles from home

and some kind fancier could have got him back to your area and remioved

the rings to let you know he had been in somewhere

then again you might have called it right

you will never know unless the lad/lass phones you

not been funny in no kind of way but, i very much doubt it, If that was the case, they could have removed one and then i'd have known or even phoned me and i would have either collected him or sent for him

get rid, staying out ?,be thankfull the ring was removed, lets you know this duffer is wandering into other lofts, regardless of sire

thanks for your opinion, but because a bird dropped somewhere else hardly means it's a duffer it could have been anywhere, And he's come home, where he belongs. if it was that much of a duffer it would have stayed where someone had him in, Or it was that much of a duffer it would be living in some town, or even on some flats, Or lastly it could even be living on some shops.

Quite obvious the person who had him in wasn't keen on the idea of it returning home, Otherwise they would have phones, Or contacted me somehow but no, they just took my rings off.

also, if they just didn't want to mess with strays, it wouldn't be alive still would it?

Hi Andy, any true pigeon man would report a youngster with a 'phone ring on, Good racers have made mistakes as youngsters, anyone who thinks otherwise are either new to the game or unsuccessful

suit yourself mate, but if that thing came back with ybs you wouldnt make the same mistake, billt is correct i have been unsuccessful because, like you,i just let them back in.atb

Well, the yb is back to my loft going to make sure it's 100% healthy before having it back out I will get him flying and trained and see how he goes. If I loose him then I was wrong to give him another chance.

Give the bird a chance mate one of my best old birds some time ago was lost at the first YB race, overflew to Glasgow some 90 ml.North, liberated on his own some 90 ml.East ,Scotch Corner and went on to win five old bird races before being hawked above my loft.

Get it paired on with an old bird.

a m8 of mine had a youngbird reported some 30 miles away, this bird was collected and went on to top the fed twice in good size birdage, how can you condem a youngbird for staying out or going into anothers loft?

this bird could have been caught by a non fancier and rings removed without them realising that they would be needed by the owner.

any birds that have a few nights out...especially with rings removed should be put in a basket and watched for a day or two.

but i would never condem a yb for doing what yours has done.

..only if it keeps repeating it i would.

All birds make mistakes, especially young birds that's the whole part in them getting trained, no body nos why the bird in question went, could have been chased by a hawk, and flown itself out, but sounds to me that some one somewhere had it in and tried re home it,

You basically don't know what happened to the bird. Mine carry plastic coil telephone rings and I've noted a few of those rings missing and thought much same as yourself 'you've been in somewhere' only to find the remains of a ring in the loft. They're not weatherproof and definitely can shatter / break into bits.

If it was an old bird I would dispose of it.....But no it is a young bird who for whatever reason has had its tel.ring removed,if it was mine I would let it settle back in the loft remember it returned after 2 weeks once it is flying out with the rest of the team.....toss it single up from at least 25miles and watch....if it returns it may turn into something good if it does not return you have lost nothing....

Now mind you've gotta own up Andy emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Seriously, Best of luck with it, we all in our own way would deal with stray birds when they return from a long stay out. Truth is though NONE of us Really know how this doo will turn out. Personally i hope he scores out of turn for ye. atvb John.

I know that, but my birds have a plastic on one leg just a stander plane one and on the other the name and address ring, they wouldn't both just shatter would they?

thanks, he's settling back to the loft now, and im sure he'll be fine soon enough, and then see how he goes

Thank you, I thought the same to be honest, I know it happens alot, and i seem to get it happen with jazzy gay pieds

Thanks, I have a close eye on him as we speak ;)

if one ring was removed i'd say it was doing me a favour, But as both was taken off i can't help but think they was trying to keep the bird.
