Ian McKay Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 SNFC met with Billy on 15/4/13, and two things spring to mind from that meeting relevant to this thread. Not the words Billy used, these are my recollections of what he told us: (1) 'there were a lot of peregrines both there, and north of Lamberton, he could see them when driving down'. (2) 'the birds were recorded on ETS both when leaving and again when entering the loft... the way they went out and the way they came back in were different - and this was how he kept track of what birds were in the loft.' Slight discrepancy here Ian this is from his own WEB site: 22 July 2013 - Hi all the weather here was misty today so I let the birds have a bath in the morning and let them out late afternoon. On Sunday we were very busy putting all ets rings on the birds, everything went well. The list will be up shortly Billy And as far as I can see from the first ETS report this was 29/07/13
Ian McKay Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 Its a pity how things have went up til now with the SOLR. Billy hasn't had a chance with all the planning and red tape hes had to deal with, however, you only make enemies if you haven't complete transparency for its entrants. This is the exact same thing that's happened with the SNFC in recent years, a lot of cloak and dagger stuff imo. I hope everything works out and we can learn from our mistakes to take forward to the SOLR for next year. Derek it would have been nice if he told us at the outset he had NO planning permission as I for one would NOT have entered without it
Delboy Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 Derek it would have been nice if he told us at the outset he had NO planning permission as I for one would NOT have entered without it Billy knows his stuff re planning etc but I suppose you are right, he should ve got everything in place before he advertised the OLR.

peter pandy Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 Have all the knockers of the OLR who entered birds never ever lost any from the top of the loft or training even from 2 miles. If you haven't then you are telling porkies to yourself. Give the guy a chance and see what transpires.

Peter from a knocker as you describe me the biggest problem is the incorrect info given he contradicts himself and there is more to come Nobody has ever said he should have no losses but why hide them and give out incorrect info Now we are waiting on a new programme for results it's 8 months since he started to advertise this race and take everyone's money and he is still waiting on the programme for results And no planning permission this from a man that is well known to planning laws :emoticon-0138-thinking:
peter pandy Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 I know where you are coming from Ian, it is the other comments regarding losing their birds with the attitude that they have never lost birds in the past. Perhaps Billy has been disappointed with what he has to work with !!.

Big Wattle Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 How far off the original proposal do things have to be to get your money back. Basically remember the owner was selling the SOLR to us at Blackpool when he already knew there were many objections already with the Borders Council. The first race is from Wetherby on Sat, I reckon dist to be almost 135 / 140 mile so the y/bs are being jumped 100 mile, out the window the 50 / 60 / 80 mile races as on the original programme. Below are only a few points from the SOLR rules 11) The pigeons will be housed in a luxury loft, specially designed for this race. This loft will accommodate approx 1200 birds. Check the photos, far from luxury, we now hear that one of the aviares blew off 12) The ELECTRONIC CLOCKING SYSTEM will be installed into the loft and used for all training tosses Only been used for what looks like 2 training tosses 14) A proper PIGEON TRANSPORTER will be used for the training of these pigeons looks like a business van with home made crates put inside There will be a comprehensive training programme, gradually building up the distance on a weekly basis. This will be strictly adhered to, so the pigeons have the proper education for the task in front of them but subject to the welfare of the birds and weather conditions prevailing. Now they are being jumped 100 mile into the first race, first time in a transporter, first time lib with other loft birds
harky Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 You have got to learn to walk before yi can run, every body has to learn and im quite sure if its running next year it will be a lot better run.omo

Guest bigda Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 i have asked you this before and got no answer.DO YOU HAVE ANY BIRDS ENTERED thunderbigfaws, you should not be asking that, if a guy has birds entered or not, if you have birds entered well done, on a open forum it is up to you to prove that you are perfectly happy with your lot, could you try and stop a football fan from cometting on a team they don't support on a open forum, i don't think you could, you might feel embarrassed by whats going on, to tell you the truth i like most where in total shock when we seen the loft that was and is still on show, if the owner aint embarrassed well that's his choice as like others, and that you have no control over the one loft race, entrants you included gave the owner all the backing, and are finding it harder now.and there chance of winning a prize, is almost now impossible, if the one loft is now positioned in the wrong place and getting attacked by the BOP. and the owners not telling its entrants whats happening, but hearing it from guys that you find have no business in telling any one, aint there fault if they bring bad news. to ears that don't listen,
Big Wattle Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 i have asked you this before and got no answer.DO YOU HAVE ANY BIRDS ENTERED Been checking during the night don't think you have personally entered you may have done under a syndicate name, if not your comments are no more valid than mine Your views might be different if the SOLR was in your SNFC section.
sapper756 Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I do not intend to comment negatively about how this OLR is being run, as it can not be an easy task, and hopefully if Billy intends to do the same next year, he is learning from his mistakes. Good Luck. How ever I would have liked to have seen a complete record of the returns/times of the latest training toss, not a typed record of the first 20, so fanciers can follow the progress of their birds, whether they be part of a syndicate or as individual entries.
