buster151 Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 When the season is over I leave treatments alone until I want to prepare the old birds for breeding. I then test the droppings and the swabs and treat for what I have found. This morning I decided to get some practise with a new miroscope so collected up droppings and tested them. Cocci everywhere. Big nasty devils and I think I saw one bare his teeth at me. So it will be Baycox next week. If I had found a small amount of cocci I would'nt have bothered because a small amount helps to develop the bird's immune system but this is beyond a joke. I thought I might find some worm eggs but there were none to be seen. I will test the this year's youngsters tomorrow to see what is happening there.silly question, but how do you know what to look for? and what it is

Guest geordiejen Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 my birds are all show birds and are kept in,i still worm my birds before pairing up,someone told me that slugs which can get to the loft can carry worms and all sorts of nasty diseases.on the other hand i prefere to let the birds immune system cope with most things but before breeding i like to treat my birds.havent used horse wormer so cannot comment on that.garlic in the water tends to keep nasties at bay but weekly health checks keeps my mind at ease.treatment for worms, cocci and canker thats it then pmv after the breeding season.

Guest robscott Posted January 7, 2013 Report Posted January 7, 2013 im worming my team at the moment, harkers wormer(liquid 1 cap full per 2 litres for 3 days).i only worm once per year,if you got grass lawn infront of your loft its advisable not to let pigeons pick on the grass, take notice when you go to top loft most of the lofts are flagged (no grass).
