peter pandy Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 Just recently there was a post enquiring about a certain fancier which brought about comments regarding how this fancier was the best the Federation has ever produced if not Scotland and I am rather peeved at the comments by non members of that federation or comments by those not old enough to know better.I am about to entertain you regarding the North West Federation Scotland. This Fed was the 2nd sometimes the 3rd largest Fed in Scotland enjoying at its height 800 members for the 20 square miles the majority of its fanciers were in compared to the 40 square 800 members of Fife and 200square miles of Lanarkshire with 1200 members. The Fed runs from South East to North West hence its name and is roughly 2 miles wide and 10 miles long. No other Federation could boast the type nor concentration of members any where in Britain. Will complete soonest as there is an emergency

peter pandy Posted October 29, 2012 Author Report Posted October 29, 2012 Mrs Mack was making supper and using the cast iron gridle set the fire alarm off.Now where was I ? oh aye fanciers past and present, Well when I started up I had to compete in a 43 member club with a 1 mile radius and many fanciers were in the same boat however we had to compete in the Fed against the likes of the Ogilvie's, Jock Reid, Bert Hunter, etc and Rooster unfortunately has not a clue regarding others who can not get a mention due to my memory however I do know one thing these fanciers had to compete up to 6,500 thousand pigeons from the first race to the last which the present fanciers have never had to compete against.I have to agree that the present top fancier Tam Blair has without doubt set a standard however it is only over the past couple of years and down the East coast.
alex young Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 When I started the thread on Tommy Blair,it was only for some updated info on him and not my intention to compare his results against other top pigeonmen in his fed.I know very little of the past history of the Fed other than it is a very competitive one.The video I have dates from 2002 when he topped the Fed 4 times which had 270 members sending up to 3,500 birds he was also 10th open from Reims 583mls,great flying by any standard.atb.
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Peter, I at no point in the Tommy Blair thread said I thought he was or wasn’t the greatest fancier to ever fly into the Northwest Fed One thing I’ll say now is that one of the lofts you mentioned flew, in my opinion, the greatest bird there has ever been in the NW fed, if not the country. A pigeon who as a young bird was 2nd Fed Open, as a yearling was 2nd fed open and over the course of her racing career topped the fed 7 times. Scored 4 times in the first 2 % SCC from France with her highest position being 3rd open and scored 4 times in the top 2% SNFC from France with her highest position being 9th open. She belonged to a loft that won over 300 x 1st in ten years, owned a pigeon to breed 30 youngsters to score from France as well as breeding 6 fed winners in one season and a bird which bred a further 15 pigeons to score from France. The loft was fed champion for many consecutive years and at one point timed 29 pigeons on the day of liberation from 510miles. I could list a number of pigeons, their breeding and performances for lofts in Stenhousemuir, Larbert, Denny, Camelon, Bonnybridge, Stirling, Alva, Menstrie, Avonbridge, California, Winchburgh, Croy, Gilmerton, Wellbank, Annan, Ireland etc etc. down through this same line of birds, but this is information I have picked up or been told in private conversations. Out of respect for these fanciers I won’t be airing their business on an open forum. The point I did touch on in the Tommy Blair thread is that you cannot compare Lionel Messi and Zinedine Zidane with Johan Cruyff and George Best.

peter pandy Posted October 29, 2012 Author Report Posted October 29, 2012 Lewis,I sincerely hope your memory stays as it is as you reach old age and thanks for correcting my lapses in my rambling's.Perhaps you should update your Rooster to Bamber LOL.
