Not sure who was racing from where or what time Libs were yesterday but at 10.55am beside the bypass from StBoswells to Melrose we came across around 50/60 racing pigeons being attacked by 3 Peregrines who had them 'trapped' by trees and were diving in at them from different directions.

This was heartbreaking to watch and all we could do was fire the horn as long as we could in the hope of distracting them, normally we would have seen this batch fly roughly in the same direction as we drive but we didn't see one bird the rest of the journey home

 

It begs the question how many times during each race are things like this happening?

lib sites should never be near forrestry, not so close as 25 mile I SAY, when percy strikes, your bird has a spoting chance of getting away in open country and has 4 sides open for there escape, but once in forestry area with a bigger batch the fear from the bop will put your pigeon in through the trees braking legs wings the lot, if you watch a strike your birds will head for the ground at 60 mile a hour, then starbust just before they hit the ground, but they dont have that choice near Forestry. and at that race point kNOWN as "LOST TOWN ", there is nothing but forestry all the road,

and should the goshawk want a bit of the action this git will go in after them what percie cant get. the 60 mile never killed the birds or the weather the bop and the area

with the west wind our doos where pushed over to the kielder Forrest area and that is where there body's will be lying , have a look at the wooded area about there look at the map of longtown and then count the woods and forrests there then look at the size of the keilder forrest doos getting hit there you have no chance.

Mibe need to get on to the Forestry Commission and get them to clear-fell a 10ml radius around every racepoint we use.

A friend has a bird reported in Northumberland from Longtown. He has three Lanarkshire birds and his friend has a few along with a few other Scottish birds.

Hi Frank,that guy would not be a Colin Creighton would it,we had a stray reported in Haltwhistle in Northumberland on Saturday and I spoke to him tonight and he said he had other Lanarkshire strays in and his friend has a few also on Saturday

I don't know how many birds were in the convoy and going with some of the post there are some big fat perigans out there if bigda's stats are anything to go by 65percent of 1000 is 650 that's a lot of perigans on the west route we are missing 7 of 58 that's a sad loss of approx 5 percent that's down to bad management ,bad weather,perigans,doo's not being right , wrong doo's for the day the list goes on so don't blame the west route perigans the birds have been getting slaughtered up the east for fn years.imo.

four perigrines were passing 1 of our pigeons about like a rugby ball at dunbar 3 weeks ago , and its a job wee werent at kelso on saturday god only knows were they would end up north sea oil rigs for the lucky ones

you all seem to think the forestry has nothing to do with doo racing forestry has now come on leaps and bounds since they started it in the late 80s planting fast growing Firs and such like, the tree are at full height now, and there are more Bop. If you have had a look at the size of kielder Forrest and that is where the birds got blown to

on saturday, the batch would have been at that time 4,000 strong maybe more but i believe they where hit about there, and this is the case most times any one goes near

longtown, I also believe there are sites there. to watch the Bop in the kielder Forrest, as it comes under a Nature Reserve. there are guys loosing birds from 15 mile tosses every day

even birds, that have came out of the same place 6 times training, now that cant be right,

and we expect our young birds to make it home from all the places, as they pass most peoples training spots, or lines of flight. just now we have a few birds but just don't seem to care about the problem as when we get to the 4th race most have stopped, but what has that achieved absolutely nothing the next year. for what is put by is only cannon fodder for the next old bird races once again. over the winter we here guys say i have about 25 yearlings

for next year, but only 4-6 make it to the yearling open. we are now breeding a team of 40-80- to get 6 races max. as i say trees and bop attacks there is only one looser

our birds i have seen it pigeons will do any thing to get out the way of a bop they even skelp of your own window or shed if they get chased but them fir trees are that dense they would brake your birds wings or legs no problem then they die the slow death

or some fox put them out there misery
