It would seem that Pidge wasn't released far enough away. Or that he is still thinking after a long holiday that this is home.

After the experience with his owner, first of all having made no effort to contact me, not showing up to collect when arranged, and then plaguing me with phone calls once his son had released the bird (oh, yes... the story entered a new dimension!) I really don't want anything to do with him.

How can I get this bird home, rehomed, or at least out of my garden permanently without having direct contact with the owner?

Someone please help me! I am Worthing, West Sussex. If there is anyone who would consider rehoming Pidge I honestly think this would be the best idea as his owner is seriously clueless / doesn't care.

I am :( and :emoticon-0179-headbang:

Dont mess about Vicki do as they say inform the RPRA,if this guy had anything about him it was obvious to anyone that this bird would return to your garden if his son liberated it so close he really needs to get the bird back home and keep it in for a while. There is a guy on here who is a member of the same club as the owner I did email him but have heard nothing back. :emoticon-0127-lipssealed::(

Let us know his name Vicki it might be useful, email it to me if you like.

If you have had numerous calls from the guy I would say he is trying to sort it out??????

Sorry to have to say mate but if you have read the other threads regarding this bird you will see this guy is a JOKE.

Geordie - no, he wasn't trying to sort it out. He had ample opportunity to collect the bird or arrange collection and he didn't. He only did something when the RPRA threatened him with a ban because of his behaviour... and then once his son (who described the whole situation as a nightmare and was ashamed of hid father's actions) had collected / released the bird he rang me every hour and a half to see if the bird was back in my garden. I should add that this guy is FULLY aware that I am heavily pregnant and due to give birth any day. I don't need some stranger pestering me either by not taking responsibility for his own bird, I don't need to clean any more pigeon excrement off the children's climbing frame etc and I do NOT need to deal with him again. Apologies if that comes across in a negative or aggressive way, but I have put so much effort into getting this pigeon sorted and it has all bein thwarted by the owner's idiocy.

Pigeon-Man, I will email you, thank you. I will also email the lady from RPRA.

There must be someone in or near Worthing on here that can sort this problem out for Vicki surely?

are you feeding the pigeon. if so i would stop and it will hopefully go looking elsewhere. agree with the others that you should inform the rpra but cant believe no-one in your area has offered to help you out. wouldnt happen in scotland

Well Vicki,I cant say I am surprised at the outcome of this and expected to see a new post re pidge yesterday:(

Unfortunately, pidge has failed miserably in his role as a racing pigeon and why the owner doesnt want him back. Albeit,it is still the owners responsibility to get his found pigeons repatriated at the earliest convenience and even more so when the finder is a non fancier. The RPRA should throw the book at this owner and it is exactly what he deserves!

Thing is though Vicki, pidge would be of no use to anyone who has racing pigeons, especially with its past record, so re homing him could still be a bit of a problem. It is also illegal for anyone to rehome this pigeon without the owners written consent, ie a transfer of ownership form. Your best bet would have been to advertise it FREE in BIRDTRADER and perhaps a local lad who has fancy pigeons could have used it as a foster parent to bring up young pigeons that his fancy type of pigeon are unable to feed.Either that or someone who just keeps a few pigeons as pets.Like I say, pidge would be of no use to anyone who keeps racing pigeons.

Now that you have reported it again to the RPRA nothing can be done with pidge untill they have taken the required action and forced this member to send a courier to pick this bird up. It will be closed over the weekend too and by the time a courier has been arranged and is able to collect the bird then Im afraid the saga will continue over the next week.Dont feel guilty pushing the RPRA into action against this owner as he has brought everything upon himself and you have done MORE than enough to resolve this! Hopefully this time, we shall see the pidge saga come to a conclusion????

pigeon359 you're thinking way too much, pidge has made one mistake he was getting fed and watered where he was, actually showing the brains to remain where he was, going by some of the previous posts maybe he was being treated better than in the owners loft?? He failed miserably did he? How do you know? Is every bird that goes missing a miserable failure? I know I have lost good pigeons, multiple scorers and winners.

The "fancier" concerned should look in the mirror as he is the only failure I can see, unfortunately he will probably blame pidge who won't survive next contact.

I hope that those that class every bird that loses its way once as a failure do take that look in the mirror because more often the answer will lie there

Well done Vickie, I apologise, and am embarrassed for the fancy by this members actions. No wonder the public at large have a low opinion of our sport,,,,,,,,...

You are not the only one bluecock who has lost good pigeons....... and there is nothing in my post that is talking about your pigeons or anyone elses for that matter. Did I even mention about any other pigeons other than pidge? What are you babbling on about mirrors for? Read between the lines mate before you go talking a lot of mince. What does it tell you about the pigeon, if the owner who knows it better than anyone else, isnt interested in getting it back? It tells you its not worth the hassle to him..... so why? Is it because it won any races? Hardly mate, it has failed to reach up to a certain standard thats why.We are not talking about a young bird here mate we are talking about a yearling. It made a mistake getting lost in the first place and it made a second mistake not trying to head home once it was liberated away from Vickis.Who knows what mistakes it made as a young bird but the owner didnt seem to think it was worth its salt.Do you think that the owner wouldnt have sent for or collected this bird at the earliest convenience if it had won any races? Of course he would! It has been getting fed and watered and has had as much rest as it liked and made no effort to get home.Perhaps it did get better treated than at home , who knows, but you dont know that either. Just because it was getting fed and watered doesnt mean the bird has brains staying where it is. What planet are you on? I have had birds return with injuries so severe that I have had no option other than to have them put out of their misery. That shows courage and determination to get home....... regardless if it has even won a race or not! What efforts has pidge made to try to find home? None is the answer to that and why in my opinion it has failed miserably as a racing pigeon. We are not talking about getting lost in timbuktu mate we are talking a hundred mile or so! I have had many lost birds clearing or finding their way home after being fed and watered for much longer than pidge did. You think that pidge is some kind of future champion? Then why dont you offer to re home the bird? You say I think too much but your problem is you dont think enough before you open your mouth and put words into your post that have never even been mentioned. You said that I think that every bird lost is a failure.......where did I ever say that? I am talking about one pigeon in particular that with all the facts laid out IS nothing more than a failure as a racing pigeon.Do you mean to say you cant even SEE that by reading earlier posts? Like I said, if you think it is some kind of a champion now or in the future then why dont you send for the bird? Surely £40 carriage costs is little to pay for a future champion! Before making comments on any of my posts I suggest you read my posts carefully and UNDERSTAND what I am saying or meaning by them before you go ranting on about what thoughts YOU think are in my head.I am perfectly entitled to say what my opinions are and they are based on facts. What is your opinions based on..........what you think is in my head? I suggest you think about the FACTS instead of making a post full of nonsence and perhaps look in the mirror yourself and ask yourself "Do I know what I am even babbling on about".

And furthermore bluecock, if you read my post you will see that it was aimed at Vicki and not you or other pigeon lads. I used the words failed miserably in a language that she would understand and to give her a little insight into the world of pigeons and thoughts of the owners. Of course I wouldnt use those words with pigeon lads that already know what the score is! Would you rather I said " Oh the pigeon is a waste of space and fit only for the bin".............. like you seem to have inferred in your post!!! Nice one mate.........very clever knowing this non fancier will read it. Vicki has went to a lot of trouble caring for this bird and does not need or want to read that kind of comment!

And furthermore, I have dealt with or repatriated hundreds of strays over the years, and still do, yet you try to make out I think all lost pigeons are miserable failures. I have sent many a good pigeon back to their owners who have been over the moon. I have made many friendships through this with countless offers of young birds over the years for my good deeds. You dont know me or my thoughts mate and I gave you no reason to attack my character or my thoughts. You just jump in feet first without even thinking about it. Do you think that because I have only just joined pigeon basics I know nothing? You know nothing mate if you think that!
