victorious Posted April 29, 2012 Author Report Posted April 29, 2012 so really in one word folks we are just throwing good birds away racing in single figure temps ,when will we even learn.
celtic Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 It happens year after year, why keep birds all winter just to throw them away .
Guest Tooshy Boy Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 JUST PROVES A POINT MONEY COMES BEFOUR THE DOO S
Guest Owen Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 I reckon that the losses are down to the fact that we the rank and file allow a minority to decide what we are going to do. I think it is about time we stopped being dictated to by this minority. Pigeon Fanciers have a huge investment in their sport in time and money and for some reason are prepared to be dominated by just a few. I know that in the future I will have to take charge of my own affairs and try to make decisions to suit me.I know that one of the English Feds cancelled the race and took the birds back to the various Clubs for the members to collect. Good on them I say. Our daft lot thought they could get away with liberating the birds at various points nearer to home which has resulted in massive losses and abuse to the pigeons that found themseves lost and exhausted in those foul conditions. When we saw the extent of the terrible weather we the Members should have called a halt to it all and insisted that the birds be returned to their various Clubs. I know that some of the people I have spoken to are very upset and disappointed but I don't think that is good enough if we are prepared to allow this sort of thing to carry on. Surely we must take responsibility for our livestock and take steps to see that it is not abused or badly treated. I don't think it is good enough to throw our hands in the air and blame others for reponsiblities that are ours. And if by any chance the people who are looking after our birds do not want to see things our way, we would be wise to part with their services.

Guest Gareth Rankin Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 I could see if it were young bird racing when the doos are in rags that a cold head wind could interfere with returns, but fit healthy old birds should not have a problem. Most feds are still at under the 100 mile stage and any old bird that can't make it home from this distance because its a little cold does therefore not deserve its nestbox. Jmo

Jmoagree 100% if an old bird does not have the stomach for a 3 or 4 hour flight on a cold day then it is better it gets lost now cos it will only fail at a later date

JmoWho knows what happens to birds when they are in the sky .How many did you get with feathers missing last week? Maybe the hawks learned from there mistakes

JohnQuinn Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 John do you think theres something to be learnt by this ?? un-flown birds facing this wind ,wheres as mature raced birds are not ?? Andy i think it all boils down to motivation and decent birds. Everyone needs a wee bit luck but overall i think if the stock is right and motivated they will get up the road. There will NO DOUBT be a disaster of a race and then all the Told You So's will come out the woodwork, forgetting we've had at least 1 every season for the last 3 years.

Guest stb- Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 cant agree with your statement m8, yes john cant agree with that either .There is a lot of top birds missing all over the country and some with very prominent nat positions . I had a descent race yesterday with one missing but other folks proven birds are gone .Not all birds missing are not worth there perch
