Wiley Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 had a lot of slateys out of one line of my family, Had one last season, however thought it was out of Lenny The Lions Family, as i broke out one of his pigeons and paired it to a successful line in our family, and produced a slatey, we do not house no slateys here previous to this, the little slatey topped the fed. Anyhow we bred from the fed winning cocks from this one line this season, resulting in 5 slateys. I know nothing of genetics, but all birds that produced these slateys were blue chequers.

Michael J Burden Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 I cannot wait for my ybs to feather up. I have the following paired up:-1. yellow cock to black hen.2.Black cock to indigo hen.3. Red cocks who have silvers in them paired up, their sister who is silver paired together.4. two opals paired together but do not think they will breed because of some genetic issue.reds paired to whites grizzles and ordinary grizzles. Oh and one choclolate paired to a blue but I expect only blues from this pairing.atb,MJB

Guest Basin View Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 Anyone had 2 Dark cheqs breed a Blue, the nest mate is a dark cheq. I Have read that there are only 3 colours, Blue, red and brown ( barred tail flight ) Checked the charts in the year books, they only mention, Blue Cheqs...can I assume Dark Cheqs fall into the Blue category...if so then a BLUE young bird from 2 x Dark Cheqs is not suspect.

You have 3 colours - ash red red, blue and brown - ash red being dominant over blue and brown and blue being dominant over brown. Then you have 4 patterns - t-chequer, chequer, bar and barless. T-cheq being most dominant, barless being least dominant. Everything else is a modifier.
KMCK Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I was always told by my granfather and father that colours can skip generations that the colour my have been in its bloodlines as far back as 6 generations of birds so I think what they really mean is expect the unexpected

Tony C Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 I've found when a hen gets on in years the youngsters they produce begin to show signs of this. They'll start throwing youngsters with wishy washy patterns or wishy washy eyes.
