demolition man Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Interested on your thoughts of how to aviod BOP when Training your birds. Would you single up, toss in ten's or less or ten or more OR doe's it matter
paddymac Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 I trained my ybs last year early morning 6:00am and had the best training I ever had. Never once had problems with bop attacks.
victorious Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 does any one really no, they dont bother me round home but training well thats a different thing i wish i only knew the answer ,i keep a lot of reds and white flights simply because ther my best birds but ther always getting hit racing and training my cheqs never seem to get touched.
just ask me Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 train early if possible or right before dark which can be dangerous with yb i dont believe in putting them up in ones or twos for a few reasons one is they will have a go at each one that passes though there hunting area they do store feed another is the falcon is like any hunter and would rather hunt a pigeon by its self than a big bunch of course they hit the bunch we all have seen it in a lot of cases its to split the pack and pull out one that makes a run for it my advice would be if you can get one spot that you are getting good returns from i would not move from it
andy Burgess Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 a good question , what works for one ,may not work for another , diffrent areas etc. regardless i dont think there is an easy answer any-more ,those days are gone

yeboah Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Have watched the falcon hunting at daybreak also just as darkness falls which is a favorite time for them,if you live in an area with a high density of falcons its just pure luck if you get a good training toss,if they have been fed and are resting you just got lucky if they are hungry and hunting they will take one, have tried all sorts training over the years, you either take a chance and let them all go at once if your lucky you will get them that way but they are an easier target to lock on to ,up in two's is a very good way increasing your chances but takes a lot of time ,have found it can be very tricky liberating yb's in 2 or 3 batches normally if the first batches attracts the falcon they sure will be ready for the 2nd and 3rd groups, best thing for myself nowadays is give the old birds 3 tosses then widowhood no more basket training works great no stress on birds or me ,as for young birds they just got to run the gauntlet if you let it get to you, might as well pack in
WulDon Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 always find training at crack of dawn better for reducing predator strikes, dont like the idea of training in small batches... we all have one or two good pigeosn in our lofts (club/fed winner/SNFC diploma winner, etc), if trained in small batches then this will increase the chances of our favorites being nabbed!
geordie1234 Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 I trained my ybs last year early morning 6:00am and had the best training I ever had. Never once had problems with bop attacks.Must admit when I trained later on terrible tosses from Abington but when I was there about 5.30 maybe earlier just for the sun coming over the hills I never had one prob so can 100% agree with this

PATTY BHOY Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 We eat anytime, the family BOP eat anytime.Thats nature.
paddymac Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 During the early morning they haven't got the heat thermals they enjoy when at their soaring height

greenlands Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 I honestly don't think there is a time to avoid BOP,at least not in West Cumbria.
Guest bernie w Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 There seems to be no good time to train yb,s however 3to 4pm seem to be best as the BOP,s have been killing all day and it is before they kill in the evening. If you do not have a big team putting them up in 2 seems to be good and last year I did not loose one yb training in infested areas at different times of the day.
rikki Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 2 tosses 5mls 20mls flag round loft, feed high carb diet in morning ,watch them fly ,increase flag by 5mins a day ,had my ybirds flying upto 2hrs by thursday night ,loads o protien friday peanuts etc ,they balloon up and are fully hydrated,no need to road work !!
Guest Tooshy Boy Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 YOU TRAIN THEM AND TAKE YOUR CHANCE.I AM GETTING HAMERED AT MY LOFT.AT LEASED IF THEY ARE AWAY TRAINING YOU DONT SEE IT BUT WHEN THEY ARE HITTING YOUR DOO S IN THE BACK GARDEN ITS A WE BIT HARD TO TAKE.///
Guest IB Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 OB: From what I've been told, some prominent fanciers appear to train OBs as little as possible - just a couple of trainers before racing begins, then nothing till the classic races begin in June, training them the week before the race the birds are being prepared for. Think I'll be going for that method this year. YB: I start training my YBs 2/3 weeks before racing begins, usually with a clubmate, around 60 of them go up about 7.15pm no more than 25 miles from home. Think I've only lost 1 training in the 4/5 years I've been doing that, so will stick with that this year. Last year I made an effort not to go to the same training point twice. I still had 2 bad peregrine attacks (Lauder and Hawick) so even when choosing points at random, you can still get hit.
Guest Tooshy Boy Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 LAST YEAR I LOST 11.YOUNG BIRDS OF THE LOFT . NEVER HAVE LOSTED AS MANYDUE TO THEM BEEN SCATTERED BY THE HAWKS ..///
