sapper756 Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 Just got home from work to find a large envelope from Unikon, asking for a form to be completed in order to receive the 2012 activation code, and informed, that if ths is not done, our club will not be able to access the activation code. and another form, offering our club membership for 1 year, which in effect is insuring our club base station and ring reader, except if dropped or water damaged, for £75 a year, and a further offer to individual members to insure their equipment for £25 a year. As a member it claims benefits such as rings for £1.25 each, min order of 50. what do you think folks, and who else received one of these letters?http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0126-nerd.gif CLICK TO ENLARGE

As a member it claims benefits such as rings for £1.25 each, min order of 50. what do you think folks, and who else received one of these letters?Received our clubs this morning,we had to fill out a form last year to get the activation code so thats nothing new,as for joining the club for £75 thats not compulsory so no probs as far as I can see.

Our club members will decide what action we take, as for the form to get the 2012 activation code, will be down to me, as I do our clubs ETS clocks, no problem therehttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/egyptian.gif
OLDYELLOW Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 there is no charge for the activation code, just the need to complete a form.read it wrong then :emoticon-0179-headbang: how much is a new master ???? £75 is a wee bit dear
greenlands Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 I think that the £75 is to insure the club base clock as they are still the property of supplier and not the club ??
DJWa Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 I think that the £75 is to insure the club base clock as they are still the property of supplier and not the club ?? that depends lindsay my club got clocks through lottery funding which included the base station and well which were listed in the equipment we recieved and the grant paid for but still got a letter from unikon lastyear asking us to insure their equipment
alex wight Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 The master base station and ringer is on loan, so i will not be taking them up on this offer. Any other business would make a small charge every year, BEFORE they loan the system. What Unikon has now realised is that there is no regular income except for the rings, hence the huge price hike on them. Now they are trying to blackmail us into taking out this insurance, to give them money that they are needing to survive. If it was up to me, my club would hand them straight back, and do what was done in the good old days. This isnt a surprise, its getting that whatever you need in life you have to pay through your nose to get it, just like gas, electric and petrol ect.
Walter swanston Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 As has already been said the ringer and the club master base station are on loan.I have used the annual activation code every year for about six years without difficulty. If Unikon want me to fill in some form prior to phoning them for activation I can do that no problem. As far as the insurance goes my club does not have the money for that and I am slightly puzzled as to why a club should be asked for money to insure property which is on permanent loan from Unikon. As far as going back to rubbers and mechanical clocks is concerned, well despite all the threats and complaints, folks that aint gonny happen.

sapper756 Posted November 17, 2011 Author Report Posted November 17, 2011 A base station costs somewhere in the region of £350 I think how much is a ring marker unit?
Henrik Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 They are offering rings @ £1.25 which is 15p off their list price, so if you buy the minimum of 50 you save £7.50. If on the other hand your club buys a lot of rings and opted to buy the maximum of 1000 you would save £150 which would after the membership fee was payed show a saving of £75 to your Club. Thats how I see it anyhow.

OLDYELLOW Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 A base station costs somewhere in the region of £350 I thinkso in 5 years insurance payments would pay for base station and a bit over but obviously if got damaged then they'd want the cost of the repair so I suppose it's up to the club what they want to do insure and be safe or just risk a heavy bill for repair
