Guest strapper Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 forgot to mention ...i would get in touch with a good pigeon vet for diagnosis and treated asap b4 any further outbreaks appear. vaccination maybe needed for birds that do not appear to be affected by this.
Guest bluemorning Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 you can get a test kit i think from bird health its about £13.00 contains tube for droppings sample and a swab for the mouth you post it and then they phone you with results.contact them they may have a retailer near you so you could pick one up,used one myself two years back sorted me out in no time.

greenlands Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 If it is PMV. a droppings test won't diagnose the problem,a blood sample will have to be taken. What part of the Country are you in mate. Lindsay
Guest Tooshy Boy Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 HAVE THE BIRDS HAD THERE VACCINATION.//.

greenlands Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 North East ScotlandSome where on site , I'm sure there is a link to a reputable vet in the North of Scotland,it would be beneficial to take the birds to them.
Guest pigeondave Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 have they ever been vaccinated with them been stock birds.and the stress of going too a new loft doesnt help.just hold tight let the weak go and the strong pull through,
clockman Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Get them tested,I would send droppings and swabs away
Guest strapper Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 if the droppings are a puddle of water with a stick like appearance in them its paramyxo.!

Guest strapper Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 its streppycocci mate use theraprim to get rid of it 5 days i think your find he described the droppings as wet with a stick like appearance in them a distinct feature of paramyxo as my pic above describes it....streppi is Diarrhoea like droppings...with salmonela like symptoms.

Guest bigda Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 i would treat this with baytril, for a week then natural yogart, then get them jagged then 2weeks before paring up on a course of parastop, for 10 days, followed by minerals and vits,
novo10 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 could you maybe give us an example of both ??frank streppy is water with black lines through it
greenlands Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 frank streppy is water with black lines through itStreppy>>>>
novo10 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Streppy>>>>thats it treat with amoxycillan just looked it up
just ask me Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 vaccinate them anyway as it takes a while to spread though the loft if some start dying it might save some if its not pmv the vaccination wont do them any harm anyway you dont need the the twisting of the heads etc to have full blown pmv what is there water intake like
REDCHEQHEN Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 They need to be seen by a vet :emoticon-0179-headbang: If it is PMV (and I personally think that is the most likely) antibiotics will not help a virus (only if they have secondary infections). If they are all old birds - then the sooner they are 'supported' through this the better. Old birds can recover - they will be losing a lot of nutrients by over drinking and need some support (Vetrelyte etc) it would be cheaper to see a vet than buy any of the stuff recommended by the 'don't know I'm only guessing brigade' who are recommending various antibiotics that legally can only be prescribed by a vet anyway
novo10 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 vagin never said birds were stubbling about or twisting theyre necks so dont think its paramyxo more chance streppi being put into new enviroment and most vets in scotland wouldnt know anyway but to be safe jag them jmo
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 http://www.pigeonclinics.com/default.asp?ContentId=1745&LanguageId=44&MainProductId=106&st=1&pt=Streptococ%2Dcoli%2Dcure These Van Der Sluis treatments have a really good name.Have a look on here,if you get the birds tested ask which of these products would be suitable to treat with. One of the downsides of starting to use these kinna antibiotic based products though is once you start you will probably have to continue. Hope you get it sorted though
