FoxesFan4Ever Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Hi guys, OK so I am having problems getting my young birds in after letting them out for a fly. We are not road training yet although most have just started ranging. I am really at a loss as to what I am doing wrong. I whistle and call every time I take food in, I dont feed before I let them out and when I want them in I whistle and call the same way and they totally blank me. I am sure my birds have the quality to do well if I don't ruin them. Please, please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks in advance
greenlands Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Miss them for a day,if they still take the p*ss,same treatment again when you do get them in.What are you feeding them on,add a bit of barley or pellets, something that's not going to stop with them long.JMOLindsay.
The engineer Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Had the same problem mate. I found i was feeding to much. One of my young sons cut there food by a quarter and also forgot to feed them one night. They are now like different birds.

One of my young sons cut there food by a quarter and also forgot to feed them one night. They are now like different birds. I always use a dog clicker, you can buy one for £3 at pets at home. Every time i feed them i click the clicker, after a week or so of this as soon as i click the clicker they associate it with food.Feeding them a light digestible food like a diet mix is also the answer. my youngsters are never hungry and will fly for 2 hours plus on a good diat mix. Like others have said cut them down until they start to respond. If i get birds who sit there they dont get fed. I feed the rest, put up the bob wires and they get nothing until the following day. They soon learn when the bellies are empty.I can trap 70 youngsters in 20 secs with this method. Its proven to be the same every year since i have used it to be highly effective. Jas.
lvlasked Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 i whistle to, to get my bird in but i found cutting the food down slightly and feeding them outa your hand so they no you and the whistle is food time they come in alot faster take me now 10sec at most to get my all my birds in and im a new starter
cemetary Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Cut the food down, keep in for a couple owe days, then you have control ower them, thats the only way forward with learning them, you are the boss.
