After reading about the poor turn out at the recent SNFC sale, and also after talking to Fife lads tonight, who said our own Fed sale was also poorly attended, and my own club sale recently was also a disappointment, this makes me ask the question;

Have sales had their day?

Why are such sales no longer supported/attended by the sports fanciers?

I know that some sales have been successfull, but I am concerned about those that have not.

Also, I don,t think the fact that some of these sales are held at the same time, helpshttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0126-nerd.gif

Our Fed sale was on the same day as the SNFC sale.http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0138-thinking.gif

I would be interested to hear your views folks.

the money aint about as it used to be...many of the fanciers who go to them would be on low incomes and with everything going up fuel etc ..the attendances will suffer.

me personally i wont be buying any more pigeons again no matter what price they are as all you are doing is spending yir hard earned to FEED BOP and thats FACT :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Think its too many sales chasing too few fanciers and too little cash to go round.

Maybe, the SNFC should consider holding their sale on the internethttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0138-thinking.gif

A combination of all of the above , nice to attend sales , but you wouldn't go without cash and i think most be worried about the future with all the bops about and the cost of living constantly rising along with unemployment , i think most these sales are social gatherings most the time and theres quite alot gathering every night on there computers , but it does seem theres loads of these sales , you couldn't support them all unless you had a mile long loft and sappers bank account lol ;)

possibly the way ahead

Could also mean more donors as well , as wouldn't have to get all birds to the sale as some could just be photos ;) which also could generate interest from rest of UK as can shop from yer pc chair ;)

It appears that way Brian, something needs to be done me thinks.

"Our Fed sale was on the same day as the SNFC sale". How many Fifers went to this one??, if it was the clash that caused our poor turn out, then it needs to be addressed. The ones being let down are the very organisations that need the funds so badly.

I couldn't donate due to lack of numbers, but went to buy, so as to gain another bird, and also be part of the breeder buyer.

The internet seems the best way forward.

Would say a lot of the funny money being paid for pigeons really puts people of going to these sales but in saying that if a fancier puts a squeaker from their best up for offer respect should be shown.

They're maybe be some individuals who have benefitted from the poor turnouts of late and got themselves something that could turn out to be a bit special for £30 or so.Good on them :)

Obviously some people have more money than others but I think when you see sales across here where fanciers are paying hundreds of pounds for a pigeon its a tad ridiculous.A lot of guys I've seen, won't mention names, seem to enjoy the attentio when they are in the high profile bidding wars-paying these large sums.

You'll save a lot of money and have a nicer day out if you approach the fancier yourself.

Entire clearance sales are perhaps a bit different.

There are far too many young bird sales or breeder/buyers at this time of the year, you just have to look at this weeks BHW.......it's full of them!!!

Great for the guys who are looking for a bargain, but slightly disappointing for the fund raisers.

i dont think its anything to do with the clash as going with what has been said so far there wasnt much of a turn out at any of the sales

the way ahead is the internet ie look at the results we had with HTH sale on here the only thing about an internet sale is you cant get a

good hold or look at what your buying same as buying an empty pen really.jmo

I was at a local sale a week gone Sunday, went with no intentions of buying,my lofts 12 X 6 with 35 youngens in,IMO plenty, they were just about begging fanciers to take them home.I bought a cracking youngen from a Scottish national winning loft for less than the price of two packets of fags, and I don't smoke.Well pleased.

Lindsay.

PS. There were some cheaper.
