Guest kslicker Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Hello everybody. Wondering if you could give me some help on this. Just recently got my loft up and running and have 16 young birds in it. Everything is fine, except my dog is desperate to get at them and jumps up at the sputnik when they are in it. I have the dog just over 3 years. She is a loved family pet so we are definitely not going to get rid of her. Any suggestions on maybe how I could train her to be more relaxed around them or has anyone ever encountered this? Thanks

ThanksWell wehn we got our wee terrier it was i used to hold a pigeon right in front of its mouth and if he went for it he got a slap on the head no he hates the sight of doos and wont go near them! some may think its cruel but it was the quickest and easiest way
Guest big pete Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 you could always get one of those shock collars of e-bay, remote control, gives them a small electric shock, when you press button, doesn't hurt them just startles them, you could watch the dog when it jumps quick zap, they soon learn, I realise not everyone looks on these favourable, but if it solves the problem I think well worth it, I have a anti-bark collar for my dog it was causing problems with neighbours constant barking, did the trick happy neighbours and I get to keep the dog, Hope this is of some help
ALF Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 I FIND A SIZE 10 UP THE JACKSIE WORKS BEST IF IT KEEPS DOING IT
just ask me Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 dont laugh but get a childs watering gun or something sparys water and everytime he looks at a pigeon give him a spary of water its a great trick for training dogs even gun dogs that retrive from water hate it

blaz Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) get an electric collar and try it on yourself if it does not hurt like a bitchh try it on dog.using a kids water gun can BACKFIRE .if the dog likes water it will be a new game for it.their is collars you can get that let out a small spry of water and a fiss sound that stops the dog and gives it a small fright. i would go for the cheep option which is get a plastic bottle and put small stones in it . if you have any older birds that don,t race put them in cage. when dog goes for them give bottle a right rattle and shout no. keep repeating this the dog will soon get the message.WITH OUT CAUSING DOG ANY PAIN.Don,t forget to reward or praise the dog when it stops going for them. sapper756 Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 my wee spaniel, does not bother my birds, in fact if I am in the loft cleaning out and the doors are open, she will venture in and have a sniff around, the birds are also use to her.
billt Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Having bred and trained hundreds of dogs I'm with Alf on this one
