robbiedoo. Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 at what age or when do members vaccinate their young birds, i used to do my youngsters 4 weeks before the first race but in 2007 i took in some youngsters from a local fanceir and got paramxyo it wiped out my whole young bird team (40). nowadays i vaccinate as soon as they are weaned or if i take in any youngsters they get jabbed right away before they get in the loft .
frank-123 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Some Dutch fanciers do their young birds leaving the nest for paramixo and paratyphoid one jag for both diseases
gulkie Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 mine are done when all I intend to keep are weaned round about Junethen I jag all my birds again in march.
THE FIFER Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 dont always do it, but find the best time is when weaning, not too thick feathered etc,
Guest IB Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 I like to get mine done just after weaning, when they are around 6 weeks old, and 2 weeks before I plan to let them go outside. I also like to get them wing-stamped at same time. I use these 2 weeks (when their PMV immunity is said to building up) to school them to my voice, e.g. by calling them to the feeder, so that when they do go out, they respond to my voice. I should also mention that 2 weeks applies to Colombovac, which I'll be using this year, Nobilis is much longer.
greenlands Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 I'll be doing mine when there's no more to add to the team.
cemetary Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 dont always do it, but find the best time is when weaning, not too thick feathered etc, You dont always jag Erch,
THE FIFER Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 You dont always jag Erch, dont always do it when weaning, but always vaccinate :emoticon-0179-headbang:
sapper756 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 I tend to wait until I have my complete young bird team weaned, then get fellow club members to vaccinate all my youngsters together. I also assist with the vaccination of club members birds, including fifershttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif no one gets to put a bird into our club baskets without proof of vaccination, signed by 2 independent members.
gulkie Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 i believe thats the way it's supposed to be sapper :emoticon-0138-thinking:
JohnQuinn Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 I heard a few years ago that the best time to do it is at 20 to 22 days old, something to do with the birds immunity developing, true or not i do mine at 21 days just to be on the safe side

Circovirus is the pigeon equivalent of Human AIDS virus and it destroys part of the bird's immune system. If the YB has had Circovirus infection before its been jagged, then PMV vaccine won't take. Other thing to watch is minimum ages for PMV vaccinations are different - Colombovac is 21 days and immune in 2 weeks; Nobilis is 5 weeks and immune in 4 weeks.
