Our club needs a new printer for use with ETS,we have 2 systems Bricon and Unikon, what make of printer is suitable as both base stations use parallel connections and where sells them ?

Also with the Bricon system we were supplied with a universal lead so that Bricon can be used through the Unikon system but Unikon do not supply free a lead so that the Unikon can be used through the Bricon base station so does anybody know where to get a lead without paying an astronomical prices ? [ well so the club does not have to pay it ]

Thank you for that ,had a look at the site and they look great using both usb and parallel connections.

TAM-our club has the same unikon and bricon, use the unikon ringer but disconnect the unikon clock if you are registering birds on the bricon speedy clock with the unives lead.when you do it this way on a friday night you will find that the race points on the speedy are race1 or race2 etc so befor you basket tell the bricon lads to [at home]connect the power lead into the speedy -scroll along to race and then alter race 1 and useing the clock keys put in an abbreviation in just like texting on your mobile its simple then repeat for race 2 etc.after you have basketed on friday night and ask the speedy to print you will find out that it will only print 2 copies so after it has printed go back in as if you had another pigeon to add then straight back out and print and you will get another 2 copies -easy as pie.

printers--------you need a printer that has paralel port .if you only have a usb printer then you need a pc to operate it and this is not allowed to have a pc connected .

inkjet is too unreliable -----dot matrix is slow but reliable and can be run off a 12volt inverter if you dont have mains electric on basket night.

but if you have mains electric then a laser printer is fast and reliable but bulky remember it must be paralel port printer.

We use a brother HL 5240 L for the club (you need a printer that uses a parallel cable) which we got from eBay for £40 at the time (currently £60 - £99) toner is cheap

If you look in eBay you can get ones that a refillable you just buy the black toner powder ink and a chip about £3 for the chip and about £10 for the powder ink or drill 2 holes in your tonner one to refill the other to empty the over cast then when filled put a bit of tape over the hole and put new chip on saved £60

I only pay between £12 - 14 for two generic toner cartridges as they are very cheap and do between 2000 & 10,000 sheets (they can be extremely variable) the toner is a powder and makes an absolute mess I wouldn't try and refill when they are so cheap to buy!

The one you buy must have the refill and new chip fitted then they will have 2 plugs fitted on them it was you that mentioned £60 and not £12-14

£60 - £99 is the price of the refurbished printers on eBay currently- but we only paid £40 for ours some 10 years ago - I didn't mention the price of the toner cartridges on my initial post - only that they were cheap
