16 x 8, O/B racing loft, this year i will race natural. This loft is Open Plan at the moment but i am going to split it into 2 x 8' Sections with approx 16 pairs in each section.

Y/B loft is 8 x 8 and will house approx 40 natural Y/B's this season.

Big loft is 20 x 6 in 3 sec's, 8' 6' and 6', i have perches in the 8' Sec and nest boxes in both 6' sec's. This loft houses my stock pigeons (12 pairs) and late bred's, usually about 10-14 annually.

In recent years i have paired early, then worked a make shift roundabout system for 6 races before pairing up for 2nd half of the season.

This year i am going 100% natural, old and young bird racing.

I have a small back garden, there’s not enough room for even a small loft in it. What I have is a garage with a ‘tandem garage’ (car port) built on to the end of it by the pervious owners, which extends from the back of the garden to the back of my house (then becomes driveway). Don’t have a car so I adapted these buildings over the years into an 18’x15’ loft and 18’x 8’ aviary.

Garage is divided into 5 small sections each roughly 5’ x 5’ running ‘u- shape’ around a central corridor 5’ x 4’. 3 sections contain 20 nest boxes, (20 natural pairs) other 2 sections contain perches enough for 30 YBs, split in first instance, 1st & 2nd round, but as YBs pair up, they are moved over to vacant nest boxes in OB sections, and the loft and aviary go ‘open plan’, with all birds having access to all areas.

I prefer Natural system, but my loft layout forces it on me anyways, as all my internal walls are mesh (for sight, light & ventilation) and all the birds are always in view of each other, and they all trap through a single set of open doors into the aviary, then go through a single floor-mounted 2-hole ETS trap which gives access to corridor and all sections in the garage..

Would be nice to see your set up,any pics?

thanks :) sounds complicated but i bet it isn't ...sounds like it could be very efficient time/motion wise cleaning/feeding and you're always in dry. how do you come on ventilation wise?? do you have some mechcanical help??

None of the pics show that the garage has a tiled vee roof, that area is meshed off from just above my head so birds can't access it. I put in a full length ventilated roof ridge and also drilled 1/2 inch holes through the roof on either side of it , there are 8 holes between each set of joists, repeated along full length of roof. Along the top of the back wall, above the nest boxes there are 7 louvre ventilators running the full length. On the front wall, in the YB weaning end, there is 4' x 4' fully meshed veranda, and on either side of that at the top of the wall, there is also a louvre ventilator. The aviary front and end walls are mesh from ceiling to about 2' off floor, and double doors are mesh floor to ceiling. All in all there is a push/pull of air through the place, you can see air movement in the moving down (caught on internal mesh walls) and the swaying cobwebs, hanging from the roof ridge.
