Peregrine Falcon Breeding Centre

Some two months ago I posted on this site to the effect that planning permission had been denied to a man wishing to construct a breeding centre for some 300 Peregrine Falcons at Westwater near Langholm,Dumfries and Galloway.The man has now re-applied for a smaller operation at the same site but is still intending to hack out up to 300 young falcons, the application will now be heard in Mid October.The prospects for racing pigeons would be horrendous and I have today written to the planning authority objecting to the application in the strongest terms.I will keep members of this site advised of the outcome of the hearing.

Walter can you get some sort of petition up and running using all our members on, to show the support that you have. I,m sure we would all gladly put our names to it, and if other sites are advised as well, they would bolster the numbers and the concerns we all have. Always supporting you mucker, well done, alex.

The difficulty about such things as petitions is that only competent objectors are allowed to make objections to a planning proposal.I am not 100% sure what constitutes a competent objector but people can be a bit clannish down here and you have to be careful

we have that in the gas industry, a competent person can play about with gas, mmmmmmmmmmmmm sometimes not a good idea

just as i thought walter they would re-apply with ammendments get all pigeon members around you in your club or clubs to object individualy not as a block objection block objections only count as one objection when it comes to council no matter how many names shu objection as a flying route for members would also help contact them and welsh ,english unions

Alex i beg to differ with what you are saying mucker, dont you have to be qualified to deal with gas, dont you have to have a gas safe ID card to prove to the person you are qualified. As for saying competent person can doo this, also checking there ID card will give you more peace of mind.

Well done mate,this bloke seems to have backed down a bit since his TV interview,he said he was going to up sticks and move because people didn't want him to get on in life,I think my remark at the time was don't move to Cumbria.

I live in southern Ireland and we had a person using an area not to far from where i live to hack out falcons ,he no longer finds this practice successful in this area .I have been told that there is a person that has moved over from England and he intends to hack out falcons not to far from wexford i looked into this and sure enough he is where i was told but he only has a bird of prey centre we will have to keep an eye on things.

can't he export them ? i presumed that was what he was upto...exporting to arabia? if he can't , like you say, little point. i'd also think he might attract attention from other 'groups'

breeding centre for birds of prey ? rare breeds or hybreds poss grants for this. anyway would still damage pigeon racing

For the information of site members my understanding is that the applicant is backed by money from the middle east (I think Dubai) where these falcons are highly desirable.I would ask that members take care on this site I have already had one not too pleasant phone call.
