Tony C Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Thats a good percentage, you must have the right birds I think there's a few factors involved billt. As stated we down here are not plagued by hawks which must be the main factor. I basket up my youngsters at first light and train whilst most are still in bed = clear skies. Our race controller is A1. Where I live the river Thames is a couple of miles behind me and believe this acts as a natural barrier (if they overfly my loft and hit that they're reluctant to cross)
Shortcut Lofts Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 We started with 43 young birds for the first training toss and i split them last night and there were 26 left. We lost 10 in first race and 4 in Talbenny on Sat with odd ones in between. After 26 tosses there were 43/43 so the season has baffled me. I thought they were trained enough to get home on Sat but we had strong West winds in the first two races and i know they crossed the water as i had one in Scotland. Next year i plan to have a smaller team (30) as they are easier to manage and look after.
Ian Of Suffolk Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Had 60 odd young birds bred myself and from friends.8 of those left!!Now breeding again so I have pigeons for next year as this is my first year racing.

kirky Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 started with 28 down to 16 never lost more than 6 in past seasons.
Guest mick bowler Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Bred too many and got too many left! Have 16 boxes, and thats it, i only wanted 12, but have 44 YB still here all raced. I had either 52 or 54, with both teams, so down about 8 or 10.
Guest Davy Fleming Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 So most fanciers are having roughly the same % in losses.
