JohnQuinn Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Following this seasons many stories of disastrous young bird losses, and many fanciers having to end their season earlier than planned Will anybody be considering only racing a percentage of their 2011 youngsters, and only training out the remainder? Thus, hopefully, guaranteeing some yearlings for the following season THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR INPUT I always breed some natural yb's, they don't see the basket until yearlings. They aren't all late breds but they are treated like them, All my best racers were were treated this way. This year between one thing and another i have 25 in that section though usually its around 12-16 birds.Next year i'll race the program as usual and will have a B team as usual
frank-123 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Yer quite right way yer patience but yer doo that came frae reims I am pretty sure would be in the overwhelming minority. Everybody has differing ideas on younguns and how tae race them but personally I would like tae get the majority of my team as far as pos. There are lots of fanciers who dont bother racin younguns but I would bet that there loss percentage would be quite high. i watched my father race his ybs out every race and 50% to the youngbird nationalif a yb made a mistake it would get one more chance that was 20/30 years agoif my father was still racing today his system/ method i could say without doubt he would have no youngbirds left to race the following year one guy i was talking too the other day had lost 65 youngbirds up to saturday from the start of breedinghe sent 29 on saturday at clock check he had 10 home so will ten yearlings last the race programme in 2011 ? what has he learned about his 2010 pairings?

Quality of breedin as everything but its also the hardest thing for a fancier tae admit tae gettin wrong cos it brings into question his abilities tae judge a pigeon and also the money paid for so called good stock makes us hang on tae doos thinkin that we just need tae get the pairins right. My dad un me bought in a new breed fur the distance which produced nowt for three years. I wanted tae move on and the old boy said tae be patient and we timed four at the water this year.I bought stock this year which i paid at leaset one months wages for and am absolutely gutted wae wot ive bred frae them.

Wiley Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 think alot of peoples problems with young bird racing is they put all there eggs in one basket, and when the losses are high it effects these people the most
bigjamie Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 ITS A TRUE SAYING NEVER PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN THE ONE BASKET ITS TRUE THEY HAVE IT OR THEY DONT BUT TWO MANY PEOPLE JUST PUT BIRDS IN A BASKET NOWADAYS INSTEAD OF CHECKING THE BIRDS OVER BEFORE THEY PUT THEM 2 A RACE THERE A 2 MANY UNFIT BIRDS GETTING SENT I HAVE SEEN BIRDS SENT AND THERE CONDITION THEY WOULD HARDLEY TAKE A FLIGHT AROUND THE LOFT SOME TIME WE BLAME THE CONTROLER WHEN IT IS THE FANCIER THEM SELF TO BLAME JUST BANG THEM IN TO MAKE UP THE NUMBERS SO WRONG

Tony C Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 I fly the w/hood system in the main, If I found myself in the position where my yearlings were only trained as babies and not raced I would send them sitting eggs for their first couple of races. My thoughts are I wouldn't want them wound up too much to start with.
