sapper756 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Following this seasons many stories of disastrous young bird losses, and many fanciers having to end their season earlier than plannedhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif Will anybody be considering only racing a percentage of their 2011 youngsters, and only training out the remainder? Thus, hopefully, guaranteeing some yearlings for the following seasonhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR INPUThttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif
ALF Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 TO BE HONEST I'VE LOST MORE IN TRAINING THAN I HAVE RACING
grizzal Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 will try and race the programe with ybs,as in 2009 only had 2 races before my oppand lost the ones that did not race as ybs.thats not saying it was the birds fault couldhave been me pushing them to early.
Guest mick bowler Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 If you want to loose less YB next year then plan now! Get a nice team together now and train them thru the winter , clear the route, cant completely clear but every loss is another five not lost next year.
alex wight Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 i,ll be breeding a bigger team and hopefully will have the numbers to race the full programme. I would prefer to have a full team trained reading for being a yearling. However like this year i had to stop early as my numbers depleted somewhat. I have x2 3 year olds, x2 2 year olds a 10 yearlings for next year. As long as i,m able to race thats all i want to do, gutted that ,ve not ben able to race the full programme this year.
Ian McKay Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Patience Alex it happens to us all

Guest IB Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Poll is a year too early for me but right now I want to race my 2011 youngsters out. Next year at the end of OB season I will be able to compare results between the 8 yearlings that were raced as YBs in 2010, and the 8 that were trained only. Then I can decide what needs to be done with 2011 youngsters. 2010 has been a hard year, I'm left with 10 x OBs, that's 2 x 4 yo, 3 x 3yo and 5 x 2 yo for 2011. 4 of the 2 yo are latebreds, 3 of them trained as yearlings, but not raced, the 4 th trained and given one race. So another two teams to compare.
dal2 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Birds no raced in the year of their birth generally gan doon like snaw of a dyke
frank-123 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 a female and male percy getting killed by the cold weather in the winter saves 2 of our birds a day that's 14 birds a week over month of june next year that will be 56 birds saved in the month not to mention the missed strike or panicked birds by the strike so 20 dying saves 1120 of our birds in the month of june so lets hope its the worst winter on record for peregrine falcons
frank-123 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 most of my youngbirds have had one race but trained so next year will tell me if i done the right thinglast year most of the birds i stopped after three youngbird races went on to race peterbourgh this year 280 miles

I can only comment on wot I find and am no a big fan o feedin doos a winter that I have nae idea as to their ability just circumstances this year i would have raced more last year i stopped the naturals and kept the darkness birds going i sent 31 darkie birds to wetherby and got 4 home do they need to be hammered down the road? time will tell for me i have patience to wait and see a bird that went down as a two year old (eastbourne) found in ireland never raced it as a three year old scored as a four year old from reims this year

Everybody has differing ideas on younguns and how tae race them but personally I would like tae get the majority of my team as far as pos. There are lots of fanciers who dont bother racin younguns but I would bet that there loss percentage would be quite high.

He was given 4 x 10 mile trainers as a YB in 2009 before being hit and was stopped for the rest of the year. In 2010 he was trained and raced to Leicester 257 miles, before being hit again, he actually collapsed on arrival home, I'd to pick him up off floor and take him to the drinker, then put him to his box. He was rested, recovered, trained and sent Ypres 449 miles. I got him the next morning, it was blowing a gale & pouring with rain.
