shweet Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Has anybody on here ever tried the Light System or do you know anybody that flies it and if so how are the results ? I ask because the only information that I am able to find on the net comes from America.
shweet Posted August 24, 2010 Author Report Posted August 24, 2010 Any help with this one would be greatly appreciated !
greenlands Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 I've never tried it ,but I have a poor quality video of the system ,yes American,I don't like the idea of pulling flights etc.I'll stick to either darkies or breeding early .
Guest mick bowler Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Its a system that is mainly used in USA due to their late YB racing season, starts around september, you would have to breed very early and get them thru the moult to be any good over here, otherwise you will have birds on last couple flights. In USA they sometimes pull the last 2 or 3 flights if not thrown by end June.
ovy1255 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 tried lights this year with mixed results -at the present time my young birds are on their last flight just thrown =hope they will have full wing for our national and open race from lilers end of season.
Guest gladdo Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 yeah mick i seen that and they cut them before they pull them i think !!!! mikey
ribble Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 I know of a bloke not to far from me who has tried it for the first time this year. He is having a real good Y/B season, i will speak to him at the end of the season and ask his opinion if it's the new system or the new birds i put him onto.
gulkie Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 tried it some 10 years ago, I had a video of the Samson brothersfrom the states .takes a lot of your time up . I managed to get them to their 2ND and last flight before the first race ,and all through the body moult, you do have to pull every 2Nd tail feather and when half way uppull what's left, also you have to breed early youngsters. Samson brohad there young birds on widow hood and their results where outstanding.hope this helps. PS if you don't pull the tail they keep it as yearlings wullie g .
novo10 Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 yeah mick i seen that and they cut them before they pull them i think !!!! mikeyu dont need to pull flights out on the light system u can put darkies onit and stretch the day out with lights on when nights are shorting
Guest mick bowler Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 u dont need to pull flights out on the light system u can put darkies onit and stretch the day out with lights on when nights are shorting I think you mean at the end of the season? The light system is the exact opposite to the dark. With the dark you want the birds to not moult any flights before racing season, and the light system you want them to moult them all!!

With the dark you want the birds to not moult any flights before racing season, and the light system you want them to moult them all!!when u take darkies of the dark u can then put them on the light system 2 mate ask the up north combine lads seen it for myself for the last 2 races

novo10 Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 i think we are talking the light system to race them not to moult them!yes mate thats what i meant
Wiley Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 when u take darkies of the dark u can then put them on the light system 2 mate ask the up north combine lads seen it for myself for the last 2 races I think you might be mistaken, the top darkness men, do not put there birds on 24hrs of light, they switch on the lights so the daylight stays constant
ovy1255 Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 you dont have to pull the tail just adapt the system and they throw the tail themselves
blue bar Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 tried it worst yb season i had with ybs lost more than 12 in flyaways
gulkie Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 on the video I had, you don't pull flights its TAIL FEATHERS that are pulledI believe that if I had bred early enough I could have got them through the moultcompletely, I will try the system again. ;)someday.
THE FIFER Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 tried it some 10 years ago, I had a video of the Samson brothersfrom the states .takes a lot of your time up . Diamond dave Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Hi Shweet,I have been experimenting with the light system for the last couple of years - I can't say that I have perfected it yet, on the contrary, I have made lots of mistakes - this year I have got it wrong by just 2 weeks for getting the birds ready for the national. Whatever anyone tells you the system is easier than darkness but it does have some disadvantages. If you want to pm me I will let you know the pitfalls that I have come up against. Best regards D.D.
gulkie Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Dave why don't you tell us all the pit falls you had, I sure would be interested
