Especially with a wind like yesterday

We spoke about this yesterday before the Lib,that with Alnwick being so neer the coast and the strong wind that some birds might go past.

Didnt think it would be that far though.

Was a bit strange up hear yesterday for some anyway, i only had 9/12 at 1pm today yet loads of fanciers are very near 100% returns. The early doos came before or around 10.45am then there was about a half hour spell until the main groups started going over me, stranger still was i never got a pigeon from 11.11 to 12.37 then i got 4 within 30mins. I believe the wind has affected them in some way but canny workout the erratic returns.

your returns were not too bad john heard the same story yesterday most birds were home in that 30-45 spell then the sky had nothing and still a few birds missing

I wasn't at yesterday's race (with North West Fed) but I have been getting same as you've just described for the 2 races before that, as have others in my club. A brief early spell of 'on-time' arrivals, followed by huge gaps. Birds are taking all day to work back from racepoints that are only spitting distance away.

the Berwick birds were not all gone at 715 lads Ayrshire went at 745. we got 8 from 18 on the day and 2 today, both shattered. Our first 2 came off the south east and the rest came out of the north east.... clashing.

We raced from Berwick yesterday racing back to North Yorkshire libbed at 715 and had a good race. In 1999 our Fed tried racing up the 'middle' of the country rather than sticking to the coast and only raced one or two seasons on that route due to losses and the lib sites. I went with my Dad to Hexham and although it was open at the racecourse where the birds were libbed there were countless valleys for the pigeons to chose from. Especially for young birds it must be a minefield and one mistake could spell disaster. Therfore we went back to Seaham, Whitley Bay, Alnwick (which isn't on the coast), Berwick, Dunbar, Perth, Fraserburgh, Thurso and Lerwick as the race programme ( we tried Hexham, Hawick and St Boswells in the 1999 season).

i think we need to have 4 races this side of the border old birds then have the next yearling 250 mile races then 50 mile there after out to eastborne i think the problem lies near the lake district and this should give the birds time to thin out abit, before they get to the said part that is a heaven for bops, at the solway and all races fly down the middle as we have west winds

staying away from the fog and haar giving us a better chance of a early lib

20/42 from Consett, last one at 7.30pm last night. The Bermuda triangle strikes again. Our fed has tried every racepoint in those areas, Ridsdale, Whitley Bay, Alnwick, Hexham and without fail we get slaughtered there with the youngbirds.

Don't think clashing was an issue for our fed yesterday, we went at 9.00a.m and I think the Berwick pigeons were all away by 7.15 (correct me if I'm wrong) as I posted on another thread last week it's the geography of the area, for some reason it's difficult for inexperienced birds to navigate. As for a solution   I don't know how to get around it.

Out of all the bad youngbird races from the above racepoints in the last ten years, this one has been the worst for losses for me personally, possibly the birds took the widest part of the Forth and the west in the wind pushed them further onto the sea than they realised and they went past the North east corner here and into the North sea. My early birds came out of the North east to me, straight off the sea

Stewart the best place doon there is gateshead if its possable to lib from the football ground its the highest point plus a few miles in land it would be worth checking oot if still allowed to lib from Gateshead :):):)

Raced from Kingsdown, came close to last I think. Took 2 hours 58 mins for me. 20 mins behind the winner but to be fair I did rest them this week, they only spent 70 mins outside the loft all week but think its probably done them good. Time for them to earn there corn this week I think.
