lanarkshire lad Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 Let the laterbred ybs out today at 1.30 never seen a feather until 3.00 when the first ones appeared with six missing they came throughout the afternoon one at a time, with one at 5.30 with a hole in its crop with water pouring from it as it tried to drink and another one at 6.30 badly injured.Theres no doubt in my mind they met percy on there travels. The good thing is they are all home for a change.

Armadales not far from me Aye its gutting to say the least from a fanciers point of view but it really knocks the stuffing out of the birds
Guest IB Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 Armadales not far from me Aye its gutting to say the least from a fanciers point of view but it really knocks the stuffing out of the birds Thought that you might both be training over same area. Lanarkshire Lad's birds maybe ranging so could have run into bother elsewhere. Also a visit here yesterday while my birds were out. I think you can stop training them, maybe safer, but you can hardly keep them in, they've got to go out sometime, and they will range.

Nah I took them to Stow. You never know if all my breaking point trainings paid off they might have flown over Armadale

Guest IB Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 If i have a good one they usually come out of Armadale direction Jogged memories: Used to train from Curriehill station, near Balerno. Lost a few birds from there, including one that landed up at Aberdeen and was picked up off a road by a fancier. Problem I think was that a pair of peregrines nested at Kaimes quarry. Last year was thinking of going to Stow or Galashiels. Angela (67ghirl) warned me amd others on here, of a pair nesting on a tower in Gala town centre, and a further 2 pairs nesting north of Stow. There was also a post on the hits fanciers were taking training from various border towns, e.g St Boswells and Kelso. Went to Peebles instead, think I'd only the one 'iffy' trainer, when last of my birds homed late at night (after 9pm). This year, training 7 National pigeons from Dunbar, 1 home late minus 2 tail feathers (didn't stop him flying Reims) but another missing, presumed dead. So Dunbar crossed off my list.
JohnQuinn Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 I view training as risking ma doos lives every time i send them, so when i get a couple of races under their belt i stop training altogether. If they get done when out ranging it usually ends up like a bad toss anyway!!!Problem is i think its getting worse every year.
frank-123 Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 your lucky if your birds miss the peregrines on training but if they missed yours someone else is getting it hope all they winter late breds are lucky and do the job they were bred for
