I don't know the man but B W Kelly from Chirnside has had a good national season from across the water, scoring well in Reims Ypres and now Clermont. A name to keep an eye on for winning a national, my opologies if he's already done it.

chris with regards the wind 28 section A birds in the first 100 open positions all clocked before 9pm from an entry of approx 150 section birds would suggest that wind and racepoint location were of no handicap to the fanciers of the solway. ;) food for thought. :)

It is a known fact that the further you go, the more advantageous it is to the shorter fliers.The Solway fanciers are always going to have a massive advantage in the national races BUT , I am not taking anything away from the great achievements put up by the likes of John Hodgeson, who would win diplomas anywhere.You cant help your post code. John Houstan once made up a chart that seemed to be fairer for all fanciers racing from the distance. This chart included a fatigue factor, as well as wind advantages and breaking points. It was very cleverly worked out and quite often the best velocity pigeon wasnt the winner of the race, when all the factors were applied. How many times have we said, the best bird in the race was such and such because of the location and the wind. In the 21st Century, we should have moved forward and you know, everybody would be a bit more contented in our sport.You would also get more pooling in the open as everyone would have a fair crack at it. FOOD FOR THOUGHT

 

PS John Hodgeson would have won this race with the formula applied, a top performance.
