peterpau Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 I've just been on another site and looking at birds as you do when bored. Not for the first time I've seen birds described as,a son of /daughter of a particular champion. When quite clearly these birds are in fact further back in the pedigree. I have birds related to these and know they are very well known. Surely some thing should be done about this as this seems rife. Not just on this one site I may add.

jimmy_bulger Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 its a buyers market peter always read the peds when buying, so you can compare with what they say they selling you is what it says on paperwork. its no gaurantee bye the way you are getting what you think you are (to many dodgy dealers out there) ALWAYS do your home work and ask around, reputation by word of mouth is a good yard stick to go by off other fanciers. small lofts with big reputation is what you should think of looking into mate and the feed back off your fellow fanciers. best of luck. jimmy
pjc Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Always look at the bird first, type, constitution etc and then if its meets the grade have a look at its bloodlines! If you talking about a certain well known stud then 99% of the birds pictured i wouldn't give loft room to!
ALF Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 blackpool is bad for it at the sales every doo is of a champion supposedly . to much crooks in the game after the man thats trying to better himselfs money . B) ;)
will Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 I've seen a pedigree where the colours of some of the birds on it could not be bred, it was impossible.A little knowledge of the colour and patterns that can be bred can save you a lot of hard earned cash.
ALF Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 IT'S ALWAYS BETTER IF YOU CAN TALK TO THE MAN WHO IS SELLING BEFORE HAND AND SEE WHAT YOU THINK OF HIM YOURSELF BEFORE YOU BUY ANY PIGEONS OFF HIM AS PERSONALLY I WOULD NEVER TAKE OR BUY DOOS OFF ANYONE I DIDNAE TRUST OR LIKE ;) ALWAYS REMEMBER 1ST IMPRESSIONS WHEN YOU MEET SOMEONE ;)
Guest youngzimmy Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 paper does not fly use your own judgment if it looks the part handles well then maybe its worth a go
clayton moore Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Ive heard and read over the years several fanciers who proclaim the pedigree doesnt fly. These peaple are as wrong as a person can be the actual piece of paper with the writing on doesnt fly however, the blood that courses through the pigeons veins is the pedigree by another name. The genes bound tightly to the pigeons makeup a pedigree by another name. The blue print enabling us to reproduce ability type shape size conformation,A pedigree by another nam. A certain age group will remember two guys made out of plant pots. There names Bill and Ben.These were inactive till the gardener went off for his dinner then they had a whale of a time.Little weed was led a merry dance.I will concede that while you aint there strange cocks can tread hens not asigned to them however by and large the pedigree is a handy tool. HUMAN HONESTY I CANT SPEAK FOR.
Guest youngzimmy Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 YES ABOUT AS HANDY AS A CHOCOLATE WATCH
JohnQuinn Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 I judge the pigeon long before i read about it in a pedigree, if the bird suits my hand and i think it will fit into my team i will look at the pedigree, but this will not influence me to pay more or less for it, my mind is already made up whether i want it or not and how much i am prepared to pay for it.As you's will know, there is far more rubbish comes out of GOOD birds than quality ones do, same with all livestock, its no feasible the good will always produce good, it just doesn't happen.

clayton moore Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Ah your right when choosing a stalion the owner of the mare pops round and gives the stalion the once over.Same with greyhounds the great dogs lines are nowt cos you can look at your choclate watch and at least twice a day its right.Peds serve a purpose or why have them.
