REDROCKET Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 my old man goes on and on about a couple of grizzels we have but i cant remember any grizzel doing anything race wise for us let alone these 2 are pigeons this colour any good or are they just for decorating the loft and are actually just part of the 98% thing.
OLDYELLOW Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 think what you like but had plenty of grizzles winning for me they'll always be a grizzle in my loft
Joe90 Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 its really about what it dose in the race for me not the colour, i have some and they look amazing will be racing them this year as YB
Guest IB Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 There have been a number of winning grizzles, for me the most famous one (in 1990's) was a Kirkpatrick, Stan the Man, a dark grizzle that won well on the North Road from Lerwick into Wales (10? x 1sts). Nearer home, the late Andrew Deans, Bothwell had a red grizzle cock score 3 times in SNFC longest race Nantes / Niort, over 600 miles, including winning the West Section. Jim Cameron, and Jim Cullen, Uddingston both won SNFC West Section longest race over 600 miles with red grizzles, these 3 x red grizzles were related.
Guest shadow Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 won several races from 400 miles + with grizzles
sapper756 Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 I think one of Jock Proctors SNRPC winners was a Grizzlehttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif
kirky Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 i think only having 2 grizzles in the loft is nothing to go by, it would be the same if you had a loft full of whites and ony 2 blue bars.
peterpau Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 I've 2 grizzles and they are both planned to go to Barcelona this year indeed the cock has been Palamos before and won inland. I wish I had a loft full of 'em.

pigeonpete Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Lovely to watch a nice white grizzle pull out of a big batch of birds on race day.
Guest Owen Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 I have a family of White/Grizzles bred down from a White Hen. She was a gift to me in 1996 and has produced a lot of winners over the years. I have a pure white son in the stock loft, and he has been a good racer having won 4 firsts plus minor positions. He is starting to produce very good pigeons for me.One of the spin offs has been that when the widowhood cocks go off down the valley from here I can always see the white pigeons against the woodland in the distance. And when I get a white bird on a race day, everybody knows about it.Every Autumn I reduce the team down to about 12/16 by getting rid of the least good performers but the white/grizzle birds survive on merit.

bibendium Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 have had a few decent grizzles over the years. the only downside for me is if I can see them so can percy
Guest Owen Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 I have heard a lot of people say that whites and grizzles are hawk bait. I have not found this myself. It is reds and mealies that they take from me.

jimmy white Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 jim donaldson of frazerburgh had many winning grizzles at the extreme distance,
Guest gladdo Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 if they quick enough percie wont get them though !!!!!! mikey .....
Shortcut Lofts Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 Never had any luck with Grizzles and cant hold reds or mealies? But - A pigeon will win if they are good enough no matter what colour of coat they are wearing. Its just getting the right ones. SL
