got to say chris fridays forecast can change by sunday would you not agree

if you tell me what the weather is going to be like for wednesday in annan today

it surely could change by wednesday

The fact is though, the Met Office got it bang on for Sunday, as I have already mentioned, I was elsewhere today, probably in the line of flight and it chucked it down

Bottom line is you organisation voted to SAVE MONEY. Not to think of you birds first and foremost! But to save money!

NO "ME" WELFARE OF THE DOO'S DIDNT COME INTO IT ,THE SNFC HAS ON THE WHOLE A VERY GOOD REPUTATION FOR LOOKING AFTER OUR DOO'S ,I KNEW IT WILL BE A HARDER RACE GOING WITH SNFC RATHER THAN FED ONLY,BUT A VERY BIG MISTAKE WAS MADE TODAY AND I WANT ANSWERS AS TO WHY THE DOO'S WERE LIBBED  >:(

so the met office got it right why did you send if you seen such a bad forecast

did you gamble that there would be a break in the weather or were you thinking tuesday would be the best day for a liberation

Bart - I never gamble with a pigeons welfare, I put my trust in the race controllers to look after not only my birds but all the others on the transporter, I was anticipating a 2 / 3 / 4 day holdover but it was not to be....

I have birds sitting at Reims still waiting to go,thankfully they are still safe in the baskets

hope you get your reims pigeons chris

i know jim hannah as you do

he will be gutted there has been a bad race but i have never known him just to chuck pigeons up just for the sake of it

he may have thought there was a break in the weather giving the birds enough time to get up the road

it has been proved there was not enough of a break in the weather by the returns

All the best with the Reims doos hopefully the guys will be brave enough to make the right decision Chris when it all gets down to it, all we want is our birds home safe and sound

Today has been a  complete waste of time for doo men but we must hang on to the fact we love our birds and tomorrow might just bring a few home!!

NOW NOW lads I can assure you this was NOT a case of our birds being chucked out for all the reason given. The SNFC committee had a replacement plan if this was to be a long holdover.

As for Jim Hanna I do not beleive he did not have the interest of all members and birds at heart if you know the guy you will know what I am speaking about

I agree this has not been the type of race we were expecting

You are all welcome to stand for race controller at the AGM not seen the waiting list but I can assure you it is VERY short

The Lanarkshire have controllers that have went out of there way to give there members better liberations than last year and have been succesfull up until now if the SNFC were so desperate to lib why did the Lanarkshire Liberate 15 minutes later

There are NO birds recorded in my region that I know of, this is not what we want but it is 450mls and a very unusual weather conditions

The Aberdeen Federation cancelled this weeks race and we had complaints one of the complainers has posted about the SNFC liberation so the Fed was wrong to cancel and the SNFC was wrong to go it is a never ending problem but he will not stand for the job he does not know how to water our birds when he was on our lorry????

You the fancier sent your birds knowing the weather forcast but want to blame the race controller

Why Why Why

It is easy to say I trust the race controller and to casrtate him when things go wrong

I see posting on here telling us I knew this was going to be the weather so why do all you knowledgeable people not stand for the job

Posted

Ian  you are bang on everyone is their own controler if you think its not right dont send but i have to say the forecasts i saw since thursday have all been no race and i was very surprised to see so many libs from france over the weekend i just hope most of thease birds make it home

If the transporter was needed for wednesday then make contingency plans , as posted above it will be interesting to see how many birds are actually declared missing from the race ? i'm none from 5, even if we just get a rough figure from members on here it should tell a story, perhaps give it until say Monday then those who sent can post what their returns were...good or bad.

Still waiting this morning.  :)

Had a chance to sleep on it, and read the posts put on last night.

Big difference in getting something wrong because of unpredictability of weather affecting south coast of England thro to north coast of Scotland, and as has been alleged, needing baskets & transporters & folk going to work.

At this time of year, baskets and transporters aren't exactly in short supply. Know that I've 44 baskets waiting to go out and that's just one club supplying - there's plenty more. Don't see any of this 'money & resources' stuff as being a consideration in yesterday's liberation.

Big difference between a weather forecast and a weather report. Look to Steve Appleby's forecast put out on this forum on Friday night for Saturday. That's much the same as the Met forecast for Saturday, clear skies early morning, get them up & away early - you wish!!! Saturday was a complete wash-out.

I thought Sunday was to be a clearer day, much like the Saturday 'forecast' and I thought that was what was happening when they were up 1st thing yesterday. I didn't think to check to see the direction weather was moving.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I was a controller of a different sort in my former workdays. Used to call some 'enquiries' of the type of wizened comments here 'fully paid up members of the IRCC' that is ... Institute of Retrospective Controllers.

Ian , you say we choose to send our birds knowing the weather but now we want to blame the conveyors, why, why, why.

I'll try to explain why...their job is not to get out of their cabin, have a look around ,have a cup of coffee, check the sky again then let them go.

their are supposed to do their homework , right the way back up the road, every bit of it.

Too right i blame the conveyors  , yes we blame them when something goes wrong and why should'nt we ?, they are not up for the job, plain and simple, anybody can release birds when the weather is nice, it's when there is a bit foresight required we need someone who has that foresight, not conveyors who are worried about getting them up for whatever simply for whatever the  reason.

For the money they get paid they should NOT be making basic mistakes like this that have cost fanciers if not thousands at the very least many hundreds of hundreds of birds.

the controllers decide when the birds are let go not the convoyer the convoyer only tells him what the weather is like at the race point and by going with the pics that tammy posted the weather looked ok for a liberation
