Mark Bulled Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 Stuart - Why not put your cocks on the dark? Do you think it affects them in later life?
BANDIT Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 I will be breeding 70 and bringing in 12 to try against my own, also sending out arround 20 for others to test, so I should have 62 to start with, started the season last year 52 was left with 29, Ilost 1 training only and the rest racing,Iraced the darkness system for the first time this year. bandit

Lennut Tar Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 for me it will be 15 and will last me full yb racing 15 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! the bloody falcons would take that many here. where do you live now "I'm shifting quicksmart" as long as you dont have any of that snow & slush etc. Year in year out, it's 130 rings is what I buy & hook or by crook if I want any extra one will be going in the bin, so I can have the ring for its replacement. Enjoy.
Guest spin cycle Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 for me it will be 15 and will last me full yb racing same for me except i shan't race the prog...just a couple races each for education. hope to be giving some away . lennut if you move here theres no falcons but you'll need webbed feet 'cos its bl**dy wet & miserable

Roland Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Normally never more than 24, at a push. This year, well who knows, have some stock birds - which normally never had till a couple last season. But will breed a round of the race team = 20, then 10 off a mix, 5 stock cocks to 5 racing hens. Then a couple off the 8 stock pairs left 32. Golly 62 all going well. That's 3 times more than needed normally. But there you go! Will be raced on both the North and the South, mostly altenative weeks, depending what race and what I think is best suit condition wise. - Trained. 4 tosses 20 - 30 miles in 4 directions. about 7 to 10 days before the first race. Then most days 20 miles alternative directions.
swilcox Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Hi Mark I normally give my cocks around 5 races so in the last 3 weeks i normally only fly hens and a few that might be suspect. I do like to put the cocks over as soon as they finish and pair them up to settle them in a box, i also like to have them moulted out early as i think they winter better. Whiteflight, year on year i aim to reduce my stock pairs using there childrens results as a yard stick, but as of yet they are all breeding winners so they are staying until my family is built, remember last year was my first year so these are new pigeons, but i think you will find they arent doing too bad So 4 off each pair will give me 80. To add this year there are over 30 channel races up to Tarbes for my birds to compete in and with all best intensions you will lose pigeons, even good ones so from the 80 ybs i will hope to keep 50% which seems par for the course nowadays giving me plenty of quality birds to replenish my old bird team. One thing is for sure, if you keep sending them over the water you will lose a good number at some point so i need to keep those good quality ybs coming through and i think 80ybs gives me that facility.
