john@formula 1 lofts Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 a very good idea to give a bath a day or two before eggs hatch. but they should have a bath once a week or access to the rain i.e avirey.
joe61 Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 birds should bath when they can, a fit bird will never turn down a bath, keep water clean, or if you would like some bath salts for pigeons. but why bother, oh happy days
bird man of meath Posted March 11, 2009 Author Report Posted March 11, 2009 thanks lads sorrry replie took so long web down
Skull Lofts Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 Hi all Why is it that they need to bath? :-/
sapper756 Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 Yes continue to bath during breeding, however be observant that the bird covering the eggs, can still fly upto the nestbox, so the eggs don,t get chilled
eastcoaster Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 Don`t think i would put cider viniger in the bath water while birds are feeding young !!!
OLDYELLOW Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 Don`t think i would put cider viniger in the bath water while birds are feeding young !!! nor bath salts both dry up oils
grizzal Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 i was always told to add a pinch of[ potash crystals] if thats wrong its the mauve crystals ;D

0pensaysme Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 Read this http://www.auspigeonco.com.au/Articles/Dead_in_shell_Pigeon.html It helps the eggs to hatch better

pjc Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 the birds having a bath whilst sitting creates humidity which anybody who uses an incubator knows the importance off. If we were hatching pheasant eggs etc under broodies we would dip the broody into warm water a couple of times near hatch date, this gave a much better hatch rate.
bullcock Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 All the above refers to the parent birds but don't forget newly weaned young birds love a bath, we give them one twice a week and they love it.

Correct, but also if you have youngbirds from elsewhere they don't settle until they've had a good bath.
