Hi all

1. A steady wind rarely, if ever, favours any one area over another;

2. Side winds favour no one area over another;

3. An increasing tail wind favours the long end (more time in the air to take advantage of the increasing help from the wind); and

4. An increasing head wind favours the short end (less time in the air to be slowed by the increasing headwind.

With which of the above scenarios do you agree or disagree?

disagree with all as it the individuale bird on the day and birds do wind  when the wind is not in there favour ;) ;)

It depends where you live. For instance if you are racing across the Channel and live within 20-30 miles of the South Coast the wind direction and strength in the Channel completely dictates whether you have a chance or not in the Open result. The shorter the race the more wind direction is important. Even at the extreme distance. the wind plays a big role as you will see if you study the open results for the NFC, BBC and BICC.

quite true in 99.9% of cases location and wind dictates results i always look down the results to see a fancier living in the wrong location getting in and in a lot of cases in my opinion this bird can be the best bird on the day maybe didn't get the number 1 spot but the bird would be a winner in my eyes

just something i watch out for

This to me is yet another of the things in pigeon racing which you will get  very different answers to,would a pigeon that wins the race in a south west wind have won if it had been a north west wind,some will say its the fittest bird on the day,personally I don,t think it is the case,just look at the result of some NFC races when its a South West wind and I would say 9 times out of 10 it will be won over London way,and then look at how many in Cornwall have got early birds.Personally I think the wind direction plays a very big part in where the winner is,perhaps not so much in club racing though if all the members live close together.

yes , would agree with this post,,, although sounding odd,  :)  there are times when the winner is not always  the best bird :)

wind plays a big part in races if there is west in the wind in NFC  races

west country flyers are way down the result because there all down the east side

stands to reason , but some times not very often one pops up down here in a west wind .

look at some of the NFC  race results then you will see .

Head wind favors the long flyer.

On a average race you can figure that a person who has the over fly has about 1 1/2 per mile fly time. On a hard slow race that time increases

I'd agree with all you say skull, and this comment too, but I'd add. Drag influences the result more than wind ! There is absolutely no point in anyone round here racing in the MCC. The birds are always up the M5 but many locals did well in the MNFC this year.
