i think its a better bet for new starters or anyone really  if you had £300 spare every year and wanted to find out the good ones with that i mean you don't need to worry about making sure the  young in your nests are all right feed well and such like  when you can get all your birds delivered ready for the day you want them to go on the dark  if you like and you don't need to bother with stock birds till you discover what you have bought  that year and have potential a good stock bird cheaper in the long run  as buying stock that  havent raced to your shed

Don't think any body - even Japanese and Tiawain - have ever boght better. Certainly not 'Whole shebangd and families.... may the odd one. And deffinately not the same 'Strain / Familie let alone the big winners and their immediate relatives. To argue otherwise would in my oppinion be futile. The names and purchases speak for themselves IN Volumes.

Know too many successful lofts and winner that have starterd and  / or bought in to strengthen their birds 'Pool' to know that very many good flyers - if not great flyers have done so.

Even International and National winner bought off their stock.

Now as for the other slants made against them, well all I can say is I've bought in ythree time from 'Named' flyers and had C$$P down the shoot big time! So go figure :-/

Just recovering from giving the missis her board.... still in a state of shock Pete. Say inflation up bu 1% means a 30% increase she wants  :o :o.... Can't argue with the lady can one lol.  ;D ;D ;D

Would like to say, like ALL bird the vast majority aren't worth a light in real terms, Loella must also have the same ratio. Hence with such a vast amount bred, the reality may be that theirs are overall a lot better than most ... However the sheer volume of numbers sold means those %tage wise better, it may well seem otherwise. Further, whether Micheal is the same, or as good as the ole fella himself rmains to be seen. The is certainly one class act to follow for sure.

No I don't have any Louella birds. Have had two, one lost of the top, the other very consistant.

Remember even the Belgiums bought in big time from this stud as it was cheaper than buying in their own country.

A nice touch was, I believe when a Bird off an Alf Baker bird won a national. This is just a swallow in a summer perhap I know about. I mean how many others would admit as such?  :-/

It is all a question of luck really. There are some things you can do to help yourself. Buy the birds that will suit your type of racing. Try not to mix sprinters with stayers. And buy the ones that are closest to the original performers, funds permiting.

The expections should work out as follows. Pair winners to winners and you should get, 1 excellent, 1 above average and two below average. And every time you move away from the actual performers the expectations should double. Of course you can be lucky and have all the best ones in the first couple of nests. And you could be unlucky and find the the ones you have bought are the duffers and not able to breed you anything any good.

However, I believe that the winning genes are definately at Louella's, if you are lucky enough to buy the right ones. The problem is that there is no way of telling what you have got until you fly the youngsters. The worst idea I know, is the buy from a stud and put the young you breed to stock. I think that it is very important to test what you've got to avoid ending up with a lot of useless articles that will take your money and give you nothing but disapointment.

As a last thought, I would consider going to an entire clearance sale and buying birds that have proved themselves on the road. But again, avoid the ones that have lovely pedigrees but have never flown a yard. These are the ones that have been bred for the sale to bump up the takings and are probably duffers. Also consider buying from top Continental Lofts that are trying to get into the British Market. The Owners will be trying to make a name for themselves and want to sell you winners.

I had several Louella young birds this season. Some were poor, but of the ones that come through training are looking class. I have 5 left, and these were my 1st, 3rd, and 4th birds home on there 1st race last weekend. I agree they need to be thoroughly trained and raced to see exactly what you have got! You get good and bad where ever you get them and its all about luck really! Let the basket be the judge, that is the best advice I can offer!
