johnny11 Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Bakes You will have to bite the bullet and leave them in for a while, plenty of time yet John
Red Cook Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Bad news that mate ! Nowt worse than being hit by those things. I was thinking of trying the "salt and lard" mixture that was mentioned on here a few days ago . Thought if I bred 5 0r 6 late breds(no rings) and flew them out all winter wi salt n lard then there would be a good chance of them being taken . If plenty of other fanciers did the same then surely it would have an effect

Tony C Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 You have my sympathies Bakes and everyone else in the same predicament. I’m not in the position as to advise on your best course of action but I’m sure there’s plenty on here that have to live with this day in and day out who could give you a few pointers, how best to combat them, best times to exercise, best time to train etc. Hope you get them all back unscathed.
Red Cook Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Whats thisb salt and lard thing???? It was mentioned on this site about 3 days ago . 1 spoon salt mixed with 1 spoon lard rubbed into brest bone and back of neck (to parts pigeon cant reach with beak I presume) I dont think the BOP'S find it at all tasty . Someone on here will probably explain better
OLDYELLOW Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 might be worth while in having a kit box of tumblers out at same time as they'll be easy prey for bops maybe these could be salted
showman Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Is it possible for you to exercise your birds later in the day? I always flew mine in the afternoon (or evening in the summer) and in all honesty, never suffered a hawk attack, while everyone else in the area had problems. I don't know if I'm right, but it was my belief, by the time I had my birds out, the hawks had taken their food for the day.
greenlands Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Hi Klaus ,keep your chin up mate .It's a Sh*t world,my hens got hammered yesterday afternoon ,lucky nothing missing. Leave them in for a few days, they won't want to go out,let them settle. Good luck mate . Lindsay.
Guest mick bowler Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 I'm surrounded by Percy's yet its a Sparrowhawk giving me grief, and its not even SH country, no bushes or trees for miles. He is reeking havoc on the othe birds too, Robins, Stonechats, Blackbirds. But i can now see light at the end of the barrel... oops sorry meant tunnel Bakes where theres a will theres no BOP!
The Navigator Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 As plenty of members know I was nailed every day near enough in Plymouth. Racing is doomed in the UK unless something major happens. Since being in Poland and asking many fanciers here, its simple they have them but they are not around for long.
