I'd say the absence of replies to the question tells the true story on racing and returns into Scotland yesterday. Weather we got was not what I for one was expecting.

Our race was Otterburn, 82 miles, up at 1000 in a SW wind. My club was won on 1285.

Returns were particulary poor, I waited until 2030 to get 10 home out of 16, and I've another home first thing this morning, nothing more since.

Oh and before you ask,  :) Otterburn is SE of us. Just found out that that means a SW wind is a head wind to these birds. Thought we were flying a headwind last weekend, which was NE wind. But velocities were 1800+ last week. So they were flying last weekend in a tail wind? Its an upsidedown world right enough.  :-/

ian did you check out the the "k" index for yesterday, it was very high and warnings were given. Website address is www.pigeonnavigation.com     it gives weekly forecasts and also a real time update. Bilco has another site which seems to be very accurate also.

UNC Huntingdon was a fast race - returns good - 1 missing from 29

winner doing 1942ypm - I was 8th, 12th and 13th club (489 birds) clocking 3 in 54 seconds (not ETS)

its the first time we have ever clocked in at over a mile a minute (1910, 1901, 1898 ypm for my 3)

quite interested in this quote  now, i think [as far as i here] most of the races up here , were quite erratic

No Karl, I was concentrating on the terrestrial weather forecasts, especially the "W" and "R" Indexes.  ;D  ;D

I reckon it was good old fashioned Wind and Rain that beat the birds yesterday. I was expecting Saturday to be much the same as Friday, (and that is much the way Saturday afternoon turned out, here at least). The wind and rain here at 0600am was something awful, and I didn't see any previous warning of it - strong, blustery winds or heavy rain. As I said, it was not what I expected.

yes it is Robert still early days on the west route to races from long-town both races have been very tough the birds seem to have very large gaps from 60 miles you expect 30-60 Min's after your first bird to have most birds back

i never raced last week

but i got 2 birds together then nothing for 25 Min's thy did make it back 13/14 but some birds flew  a lot further than 60 miles

great confidence filler for the Yb's

Yes today was a strange race from 62 miles, waited 13 mins for my second pigeon.

Won the club 1247 vel and still waiting on 6 from 39.

cheers

we were at st boswells today liberated at 11.05 and the birds tumbled in 24/24 in 25 mins. credit to our race controller W.Gass who decided early on friday to race mark on saturday night. excellent returns with Bert Gardiner & Son looking like the provisional  winners when i left with Ian Ross in contention for second spot with one of his 600 mile sprint doos....... ;D ;D ;D ;D
