When was your race liberated last week,we were at Kingsdown liberated saturday one of the worst races we have ever had, still many birds missing.
Tenny Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Absolute nonsense! I cant believe your actually suggesting birds where left on the transporter! What planet are you on.?
ALF Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Absolute nonsense! I cant believe your actually suggesting birds where left on the transporter! What planet are you on. Would'nt be the 1st time it has happened..
PIGEON_MAN Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Absolute nonsense! I cant believe your actually suggesting birds where left on the transporter! What planet are you on. Must admit Iremember reading the same and heard fanciers say they think this could have happened.
Guest Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Nope Tenny, Asha is correct in this instance, this did actually happen last year I believe.
Guest asha Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Saturday morning, the rain belt was above us,proabably around .Just seems strange not a feather out of place but sitting next to the drinker, scared?to go to their box, :(
retired Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 PDF had it in 2007 with a crate of birds - They were found on the transporter on the Thursday (Basketed previous Friday)
BLACK W F Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 I HAVE HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE AND ITS STRANGE TO GET THE 3 SAME AFTERNOON
Guest asha Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Tenny ,Same thing happened to a top welsh sprint man,his birds were left for 2 weeks before they were found, had to be destoyed by the fancier, they were that far gone.

thunderboult Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 what's the odds of 3 of your pigeons staying on the transporter, i don't think so. my mate had a stinker of a race on friday also and he had 2 drop together after 3 days. for some reason(and i think it was to do with the earthquake) the birds could'nt home and i think a lot of the birds stayed in the area until conditions improved enough for them to home.

Guest asha Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Yes, Sent 6 of my distance cocks to Littlehampton. Got 3 back. Thought it was strange to drop 3 experienced distance cocks at Littlehampton. One of the cocks I lost came back yesterday around 1:30pm. The next one around 3:00pm and the last one came back at about 6pm. All 3 missing cocks back on the same day as basketing day for the combine. All 3 cocks wont go into there boxes, just staying by the drinker. I found the second cock which came back in the young bird section on there drinker which was strange. They will recover, but can't be raced this year.

Tom Avis Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Asha A few years back a crate of Banwell Club pigeons were left on the WOESRC transporter, the strings had not been cut and they were discovered the following week when the driver/convoyer collected the lorry. The (then convoyer) admitted his error and the crate of birds were taken to a local fancier where they were watered and fed (little but often) and then returned to the Banwell club members, I understood that none of the birds had suffered long term effects. The event was well publicized by the then committee and was accepted as unintentional human error. Nowadays with DEFRA rules, the litter etc is cleaned out before the crates are returned to the clubs, lessening the chance of birds being left on the lorry. However, I suggest first you ask other club members if they had cocks return at the same time and in similar condition. And secondly find out what day the transporter was cleaned out. Regards Tom
john@formula 1 lofts Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 two things a the c;eaning rules should stop this happining. Also not sure what the weather has been like around your way but yesterday was the first time the weather has brightend up all week around here (ESSEX). Regards John
Mixxy Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Its happened before and will happen again, hapened to me, one thing that gives it away is the bright green colour (when strarved and water deprived), all over feet and underneath of bird.
swilcox Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Tom hi mate, i hope you and the family are well, i was speaking to dad at the marking the other day he looked younger than ever. It was in fact my father who discovered that basket full of pigeons when the lorry went in for a service, he was wrking at Veals in Chilcompton and at the time it was lucky cus they would have perished for sure. The last 2 days many fanciers have had pigeons work in, must be something to do with weather or the wind changing, ive had 3 so has Les Nichols and a few others. Stuart P.S. i have an old Pictorial with the Avis family in, must have been along time ago as Whippet didnt even have whiskers, if you dont have a copy let me know and i will put it in the post.
swilcox Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Asha, i didnt know you were a West Country Boy??
Tom Avis Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Hi Stuart Cheers for the info didn't know it was your dad that discovered them. Thanks for the offer of the Pictorial, but I've got a copy, the article was written at the start of period when everything we touched seem to turn to gold...... oh how I wish those days could return. Regards Tom
hepste Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Asha. I think your suggestion is both feasible, and moreso likely. I have convoyed myself, and I am aware of intstances when birds have been left on the transporter. I myself would check, and double check that baskets were clear before closing up, but that was after being caught out a couple of times, by not checking properly. Having seen some of the people that do convoy, who just want to get away home asap, you can see why these things do happen. As for the rules ref. cleaning preventing this happening - get real, the rules just do not get observed - fact! One qualification - there are some convoyers who are concientious in every way, and I wouldn't want to take away from them the super job they do.
Guest vining45 Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 some one told me that birds were being brought across from the channel ilands or somethink like that to be liberated on the main land weds or thurs as they had so many strays and as for west of england south road when we load we check all crates are there with torches when we have to transfer them from one waggon to another and double check that there none on after lib
Guest kev d Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 asha hello , im not saying they were left in the basket but if you remember it happened if im right to the bicc last year or the year before . some were still in the crates when they come to steam clean the lorry one week later and all the commitee were suspended , i dont know what happened have to that , but i dont think your far from the truth . ps , yb are coming on a treat cheers kev
pjc Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Crates of birds have been left on transporters but as has been said current rules should prevent it from happening now! If the birds were found when the transprter would have been returned to your area wouldn't you expect the birds to come home together and not hours apart! Just accept they were not good enough!
