peterpau Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Palamos Spain 1,043 miles. 2nd scottish 1,000 mile club in 1979 with 5 year old hen, van/clocky Takes some doing that one mate. Beats my Palamos at 751 miles last year. Verified, but out of race time ( Think around 50 in race time. ) Getting 'em over the channel's a strole in the park compared to the pyrenees.

Guest Gareth Rankin Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 My furthest result is from Niort 673 miles, SNFC flew it only 5 times in the Nineties and each year we fortunate to have a pigeon to put up a great performance. Bring back Niort 2010 ???? ;)
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Slightly off topic.. but when will the SNFC decide what next years programme will be..??

Guest Gareth Rankin Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Gareth, Why not Bourges with the UNC. Same distance as Niort??? I'm up for that Andy but the problem is it is at least one or two weeks too early for the distance men in Scotland with the date being the 20th of June.

'Niort Lady' was out of 'Circus Boy' (sire of jims loft) when he was 11 paired with a 10 year old Dave Scott hen.. whos says old doos cant breed winners..??
midnight_son Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Andy/Gareth, Bourges would be 652 miles to me as against 670 odd from Niort. Would be a great race with a decent convoy from UNC to help our birds up the road a bit. It would be ideal if it came 3 weeks later in the year. On the downside I was flicking through a yearbook covering the 1996 results and the entry for Niort was tiny compared to what we used to get for Nantes in that era. In fact the entry for Niort in 1996 was even lower than we get for Tours/Andrezel in the past few years. We're now 13 years later with a loss of members to SNRPC so the entry for the Nantes/Tours type of distance has dropped considerably. The danger with going back to Niort is that it scares off some of those who currently have a go at the 600 mile race - it clearly had that impact back in the 90s when compared to the Nantes entry.

Yes there is a great chance of this happening again but there should be a race for members wishing to compete at 600+ miles, Andrazel was a great race last year but falls short in Distance of that magical 600 miles.
