sapper756 Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I use to use this product a few years back, but for some reason I stopped, do any members still use this, and if so have any comments on it?

W.D. Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Used to use it along with B12 and Iodine up until about 5 years ago, didn't do them any harm. What is the other product they had? I can remember seeing Jock Allen coming out of a feed place with a dozen boxes of it at least when he was flying his best!Didn't do them any harm going by his results.

jimmy white Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 this tonic,, still widely used ,,,from , murray and mills ,,,,,,everything for pets,,etc,, has stood the test of time [my father swore by this,, as a lad i paid seven and sixpence for a bottle of this from our local chemist , who also stocked the old keatings powder,, which off course was banned many years ago [containing d,d,t,] johnstones tonic, was[and still is] used as a quick pick me up, containing iron[vit b] aquas iodine, salts minerals , etc,, incedently the rusty nail method was used many years ago ,, but was found to cause bad bacteria in the water would certainly not advise this method now,, but johnstones pigeon tonic, very good

Novice Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 The analysis I had done on this product many years ago suggested it contained mainly Sodium and Iron probably in the form of sulphates. It also contained other salts in trace quantities. There were higher quantities of Sodium present than Iron. I believe the Iron compliments Vitamin B12 in the body. Yes it is a beneficial product to use but seems a bit overpriced now. The rusty nail will do very little as rust will not dissolve in water. To dissolve the Iron must be present as Ferrous whereby rust is Ferric. That is my understanding
Simeon Turner Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 We use it all year round once a week in the water - usually a Tuesday. Super product I love the smell also

alex wight Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 I used it brian when i started racing, and it seemed to work well. I too used it as a pick me up and restorer, but never in preparation for a race.
Smithy Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 I like johnstones tonic. I used it years ago and have decided to go back to my old natural remedies.
