paul10121968 Posted September 22, 2009 Author Report Posted September 22, 2009 hi all.here is another update on my paramyxo outbreak.this time its good news for a change.my birds have been randomly tested again by defra and the local vets and i had the results back today.the pmv virus has been totally eradicated from my loft and birds and all restrictions have been lifted.i let my birds out today for the first time in 2 weeks and they loved it.it was great to see them twisting and turning in the air, even though it was raining.the eight birds that originally came down with it are totally returned to health and there is not a wet dropping in the house.i was lucky,i lost only one bird to the virus a late bred squeaker,i think quick action by everyone averted a disaster.speacial thanks to paul(strapper)who,s advice was very welcomed(plus his shoulder to cry on) ;D.

Guest strapper Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 HEARD THERE WAS AN OUTBREAK [ LANARK AREA ] :-/ to be honest i dont believe there are outbreaks...its everywhere ,just unlucky for those it picks on. and there is nothing in the way you keep your loft for to blame it on...this desease picks its hosts at random. as its been for all of history...any illness is kept under wraps by some.
paul10121968 Posted September 22, 2009 Author Report Posted September 22, 2009 i have a new problem now.its a strange one and its affecting every bird in the loft.for some reason all their feathers are coming out, flights, tail feathers and body feathers also.
pjc Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 i suspect the problems have checked the moult and now they are healthy again the full moult will kick in.

Guest IB Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 i have a new problem now.its a strange one and its affecting every bird in the loft.for some reason all their feathers are coming out, flights, tail feathers and body feathers also. It's said if a bird is moulting there isn't much wrong with it, so I'd take this as a good sign. Better still that they are clear of the virus, good chance that they will have a trouble-free moult.
marmite Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 been reading your plight and im very happy to hear a happy ending well done for sticking with it hope u have some trouble free times ahead
blackdog Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 yes paul, pleased you have been given the all clear mate
big blue bar Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 paul you say you have been given the all clear what happened to your 60 days quarantine from defra i had the disease in my loft this year and i know they don t lift after two weeks
paul10121968 Posted September 23, 2009 Author Report Posted September 23, 2009 paul you say you have been given the all clear what happened to your 60 days quarantine from defra i had the disease in my loft this year and i know they don t lift after two weeks what i had was a mild outbreak.originally i was told to quarantine for 30 days,i was lucky that it all cleared up as quickly as it started.the outbreak involved 3 stock birds and 5 late breds,i beleive quick action saved the day and a re-test has reveiled no pmv.all birds are now acting normally so i,m not going to argue with the experts,i,m just glad everythings back to normal.
big blue bar Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 defra must have differnt policys in wales because in scotland if you re loft has been confirmed with pmv they quarintine the whole loft for 60 days does nt mater if its a MILD outbreak as you put it mild or not your loft has pmv so the 60 days should of stood but any way if thats what they ve told you good luck .i know i tried to get my restrictions lifted earlyer and defra up here would nt back down the 60 days is incase of secondary infection

cemetary Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Even though the birds get jagged, isnt it important that they get the correct amount what is required, some people jag them but dont give the correct amount, then thats when the problem occurs.

Guest Owen Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 I know of quite a few cases of paramixo in the area this year. I think that there are some who think that they can get away without the vaccination. Well you can not because it is in a lot of the birds yours will mix with. And the chances of getting away with it these days is very remote. One case I saw was brought to the loft by bought in birds. These birds came from one of the top lofts in Britain. When I told the guy who owned them what it was, he did not believe me, at first. We managed to save quite a few but, I think, I put six down. The Owner had paid a heck of a lot of money for these birds. What a waste. In another case the Guy had bought youngsters to compete in the breeder/buyer races. Again paramixo came with them and caused a big problem. And again there was a lot of money thrown down the drain. The solution is easy. Isolate new birds and automatically vaccinate everything at the loft. It's the only way.
