Diydave Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 just a general notice, for as long as i can remember , most pigeons love redskin peanuts, so, i give them as a treat every now and then, plus i give all my channel birds them leading up to a race. normally the good pigeons accept them, all my best have , but i have a 2008 bird that flew very well and have great hopes for , he is my only pigeon that will not take a peanut !!! any thoughts / experiences on the subject ?
blaz Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 DO U LIKE CURRY OR CABBAGE OR SPROUTS OR TURNIP OR EVEN HAGGIS IF U SAY NO TO 1 HE MIGHT NOT LIKE PEANUTS
REDCHEQHEN Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 None of mine will eat peanuts crush them and take the skins off (embarassing isn't it (kewl))
OLDYELLOW Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 put a few down its throat it will get the taste for them then , use only peanuts fit for human consumption

OLDYELLOW Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 sunflower seeds are good to Can get hulled sunflower seeds from health food shops
Ronnie Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 ;Dif your thinking deep down youre gonna lose him ,will probably go down . show him the love the others have and maybe hell come well andy. Ahh now this is where it gets interesting. Do you deep down think he will go down so you treat him differently throwing him up in all weathers putting him in race's when u would leave another at home then ultimately make him into a great bird or you lose him and say it was because he didnt like peanuts.Anyway Peanuts are a great source of the fats u need for racing but there are other source's.
Guest Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 I have been led to believe, that you must feed peanuts to them as young birds.this way they will get used to them.As if you wait till they are mature they wont eat them.Dont now if this is 100%,but never the less i feed peanuts to them as yound birds to let them get used to them.
OLDYELLOW Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 if there hungry enough they will eat them
Guest Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 I tried and tried to get my widowers this year to eat them, in the end I cut them down until they had too!!! Now they devour them, wierd??
Wiley Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 best way to get pigeons used to peanuts feed them while on young birds, theyll eat anything
Guest slugmonkey Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 I cut them and feed 2 or 3 to futurity babys the only way I can get mine to eat is cut up and even then its hard
hotrod Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 feed them to parents while reering their young .i feed them that way, also feed parents in nest boxes, once youngsters are up on their feet they will soon compete with their parents to eat them first.peeled sunflower seed just as good if not better peenuts are very dodgy .HUMAN consumption peenuts ONLY.
Guest LBuddle Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 We always used to feed peanuts and the birds would do anything to get at them but stopped giving them in about 2003 due to getting a dodgy batch (must say they were not human consumption!). But now to get fats into them we give Sunflower hearts (shelled sunflower) I we must admit we think they are alot better than peanuts and smaller so the birds take to eating them straight away. I would recomed Sunflower Hearts insted of Peanuts any day of the week. Why not give them a pinch of them every night!! Lee
TERRY JOHNSON Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Hello Lee, Barcelona was won feeding a lot of sunflower hearts
budgie Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Buy them for human consumption and put them in a food processor along with Red Band and Hormaform it makes a first class job of the youngsters and the pigeons love them.
Guest LBuddle Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Hi ya Terry, How are you? are all your birds looking well? Well there you go, It doesn't get any better than that winning 1st & 2nd Open Barcelona 2002 for Terry Johnson.. Sunflour 1 - peanuts 0. Lee
Guest Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 You got by the best if your going feed peanuts was lucky enough to get them easily and plenty of them lucky as wasnt only the birds that got them think me and the dog used to eat more than the birds ;D your nuts lol(evil)

Guest LBuddle Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 Will do Rose, I'll buy you a drink or three!! . See you there.
