The Navigator Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 You buy and give what you believe in mate. Always remember fanciers do many different things day in and day out.

Guest marksimpson Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 used g10 for two seasons when breeding young birds done realy well on em would highly recommend them as an additional supplement to feed yours in sport mark.
Guest Owen Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I believe in pellets and I have used Homon pellets and Homoform for years. Last year I changed to G10 and I was well happy. I am useing G10 again this year.
Tony C Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 Whilst rearing my pigeons get 50% G10 pellets mixed in their morning feed. I believe their true value is that they're easily digestible and the babies can break down these quicker than normal pigeon feed therefore getting nourishment into them that bit quicker after a long winters night. My darknes youngsters get the same for the same reason.
Beanz Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I gave mine Gemthepax on their corn but last year tried the G10's wouldn't touch them ended up giving them away. Paul
Guest IB Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 Tried G10s for a year, couple of years ago. Only difference I (and others) noticed was my birds felt too heavy. I think that's what they are based on - chicken pellets - and that's what pellets are designed to do - put on weight on poultry asap. Different bird, different job wants done. Loft of flying greyhounds - perhaps flying turkeys - no.

Loft of flying greyhounds - perhaps flying turkeys - no. as the young birds are growing i thought feeding plenty protein g10 pellets would help the develop by the young birds putting a bit of weight on in the nest surely by the time they are on the wing the weight would fall off don't see turkeys flying much me i would like some weight on the birds before the stress of leaving the nest and fending for there self
mark Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 You buy and give what you believe in mate. Always remember fanciers do many different things day in and day out. thats right, if we were all the same would be a very boring forum.
aye ready Posted March 11, 2009 Author Report Posted March 11, 2009 thanks for the replies will try them now that i've bought them and see how they go cheers
Chairman Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 G10's are good, there is no doubt about it and yes some fanciers put their sucess down to using them in the rearing of their stock. I used them before and for rearing I found 4 parts corn to 1 part G10 pellets are about the correct ratio. Please remember that most of these pelleted feedstuffs have salt added for taste use them too liberally and you'll find your youngsters screaming out for water so take heed not to make the same mistake. Good Luck and just watch those youngsters grow on them you will be well suited with your youngsters. Many roads lead to rome, "what does for one does not do for another"
hotrod Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 i had my youngsters on them last year at about 15/20% with a mixture ,although i never raced them they flew very well about the loft 2 hrs -2.5 hrs a night every night from mid june till start august, when i went on holiday for a fortnight , i will definately be feeding them again this year WELL PLEASED WITH THEM ,as for layers pellets are they no full of antibiotics ?
Guest IB Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 Memory is going. Just checking last year's notes and was feeding G10s up until March 2008. Was also weighing the birds over last winter. Again you'd need to double-check, but the percentages quoted in this thread in corn mixture seem way over top - isn't G10s recommended to be 10% maximum? Take the point about layers vs growers pellets, but my point was different birds, different jobs; layers and growers are given to adult poultry, layers for eggs, growers for meat. They also contained antibiotics until it was outlowed for food animals in 2006 by EU. Now racing pigeons aren't food animals, so has that stuff been dumped into non-food animal market? I suspect pigeon pellets are poultry pellets, or at least based on them. So which one and what is its shelf-life?
JADE Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 used them for two years when breeding and to young after weaning about 5% added to mix. no problems with young birds
