blaz Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 £1.50 a pigeon with £75.00 prizemoney, if there was a flown 500 mile class you would not in a million years get 50 birds entered to cover the cost, this would then have a knock on effect in the rest of the racing classes. For the majority of racing men it's more of a day out than taking there 500 mile pigeon that has been successful in the racing baskett. it is £3 to get in some of that will bail out classes that have not got enough to cover cost of prizes
Shortcut Lofts Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 it is £3 to get in some of that will bail out classes that have not got enough to cover cost of prizes You should show for the prestige of winning the show and not the money. I always rate winning the classes more important than what money you recieve. Shows should be run to make the organisations money to help with the yearly finances, yes a certain ammount should be paid out but not alot.
Henrik Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 when at the show look around and see who supports the show RACING MEN who all pay there cash to get in We are all glad its back but only 4 classes for the racing men is a bit harsh and i know the racing men have there racing and most admire the show birds and the condition of the birds and this is a big show for the showmen getting qualified for the blackpool show and yes they have there classes but as i have said before this must be the first time there has not been a 500 mile class in this show Have a look back at some of the entries the racing classes had and then look at the entries for the show classes and you,ll find that the sums dont add up. We had a long hard think about these classes this year n if you aint happy dont come. Why not volenteer your servises and give a hand join us on the commitee and have your say you only have to give up one weekrnd from Friday morning bout 8 o,clock till Sunday bout 6 ish at nite so aint too much to ask eh. Any takers ?
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Keep up the good work Bobby. 8) 8)

b.massey Posted September 15, 2009 Author Report Posted September 15, 2009 Bobby your attitude is wrong mate if the racing men stayed away you would not have a show and you being a racing man Scotlands big show and 4 classes for racers Agreed..... Soon see how happy they are if they dont get the birdage required to make winner eligble for Blackpool. I respect the effort people put into making show run good but all thats being said is the let down in racing classes. 12 show classes to 6 is just not right. But I hope they change it for the better next year. Telling people not to come will make it a doomed show
alex wight Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 This is a start boys and girls, lets support the show whether happy or not with the format. It can always be built upon to make a great show, with lessons learnt. I cant imagine Blackpool show started the way it is run now, a lot is learned year after year. If we keep on knocking the great efforts that some people put on for our benefit, then it will disappear for good. And we don't want that. Smile and be happy

Any takers ? totally agree how many of you have 500 mile birds that you would enter if they had classes. once there are 30 promised in each class i will apologise. also agree that while it is mainly racing fanciers who attend they are there for the banter and the bevvy. a lot of guys go to blackpool and never go in the winter gardens and as it has been said the aisles with the show birds are mainly empty apart from the show racer guys

knoxjn Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 if you knew how much it was costing to hire the brunton hall you would freak no way could the entry fee subsidise the show classes bobby if you need a hand mate pm me
showman Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Have been looking through this thread and, as a show organiser, have been very interested at most of the postings. Firstly, can I congratulate Russell and his committee for putting in a lot of hard work and time spent to get this Classic show back into the calendar again..it was a sadly missed event..best of luck with the entries mate, and I know you'll reach the 500 quota. Deciding what classes to put on can be a bit of a nightmare for the organisers, but what I would ask of any fancier is to give some thought about supporting this Classic Charitable event, and take their birds along to the show for the classes that do exist. If good numbers of entries are received in the racing section, then is the time to make an approach to the organising committee asking them to take another look at classes available. If they see that racing classes are being supported, then they hopefully would look on the request in a favourable way. Let's not try to get sucked into the 'what's in a name' debate. True, the show is part titled as a Racing Pigeon show, but don't forget, that the roots of the Show Racer lies within the Racing Pigeon. In very simplistic terms, the show racer of to-day owes it's origin to fanciers taking exceptional exhibition quality racing pigeons, and through decades of selective breeding, have arrived at what we now term a Show Racer. Let us also acknowledge that this type of breeding still exists to-day, with fanciers selectively breeding better looking 'racing pigeons' in an attempt to fool the judges. Eamon, I love your attitude.....I always looked upon showing as a glory thing, prize money never entered my head. Above all, I would again ask that you support this show if at all possible, and, unlike a previous, nearly unbelievable posting which said if you don't like it stay away....don't take up this attitude....support the show if you can, and then make your representation to have classes modified. Sincerely Paul.
