Taylorsloft Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 prob stay for the weekend my son lives in Edinburgh
merrysilver Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 on the entry form it says EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL CHARITY RACING PIGEON SHOW
ALF Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 I'll be there as i always went through to the show when it was on Hopefully the wife wont be working that weekend and i can have a couple of beers
Guest bigda Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 use to go when it was in the usher hall i think, ended up drunk watching different type of birds strippers, and pole dancers in and around leith i think was easily lead in those days what a show
maverick Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Yeah agree Gary. Its back on so we'll support it but people's voices need to be heard and after all its a Racing Pigeon show but poor classes. The show racer birds have took over. It should have had at least 400/500 mile pigeons to cater for the national men as we all know it takes an entirely different type bird to fly 500 mile+ than just 200mile. They should have catered for this then it would have been perfect. I dont have any flown 500 mile birds so makes no diffrence to me but I think they have just let it down by not offering the class It must be the first time this show has not had a 500 mile class for cocks and hens so 2 classes lost to the racing men but great to see it back on as a great 2 days to meet up with old friends and make new ones
b.massey Posted September 15, 2009 Author Report Posted September 15, 2009 I agree there should be equal classes for both racers and show racers but where does it say its a Racing Pigeon Show? Its being organised by show people who know from experience that a lot don't support the racer/flown classes and there is no point holding a class for a dozen birds! As Merrysilver says it is headlined EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL CHARITY RACING PIGEON SHOW
pjc Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 As Merrysilver says it is headlined EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL CHARITY RACING PIGEON SHOW Ok, sorry, just header read, Edinburgh International Pigeon Show! But as i said there should be equal classes but it is being run by show men and they will look after there interests first. How many clubs holding shows ever put on classes for show racers?
Guest grizzler Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 its up to you, the fancier to request classes to be put on. but please support them. ive lost count of the times that classes have been requested at the shows that ive been involved in running, only to see them with very few or no entries at all.
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 its up to you, the fancier to request classes to be put on. but please support them. ive lost count of the times that classes have been requested at the shows that ive been involved in running, only to see them with very few or no entries at all. You are correct, the only way you get an entry in these 500 mile classes is if you make it likeliest to win which in turn means that you get pigeons that have got 20%- 50% show blood in them and the fanciers judging them cannot go pass the fantastic condition that they are put in the pen even though they have not flown 50 miles, would say that 200 miles miles is a little drastic perhaps 300-350 miles better to attract a reasonable entry. Looking forward to the show and hope it will be well attended which i am sure it will be as there are fewer and fewer of these days in Scotland and fanciers are crying out for some were in Scotland to go during the winter months.

I remember Larkhall and one won the likeliest to win 500 mile cocks class and it was 100% show bird. It went on to win BIS, Eddie Newcombe judged the 500 mile hens, very good judge,

Guest Gareth Rankin Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Have carried many of the 1st prize winners at Larkhall up to the top and the majority of likeliest to win classes were percentage show pigeons which were put up there by the best racing men in Scotland and the reason they were there was because of the condition these men put them in, also they had no fret marks, lice and sh** on the wings and tails which is what some of the racing men enter their pigeons like.
Delboy Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 I remember Larkhall and one won the likeliest to win 500 mile cocks class and it was 100% show bird. It went on to win BIS, Eddie Newcombe judged the 500 mile hens, very good judge, If you get a decent enough judge then he can pick out the dipped pigeons from the true racers, 9 times out of 10. I think there should be a 450 mile class at Edinburgh, flown certificates to be produced for all entrants.

Thats what makes this years edinburgh show a poor show for the racing men only realy 4 classes for them who made up the classes for the show this year as this must be the first time there is no 500 mile or eyesign classes
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 £1.50 a pigeon with £75.00 prizemoney, if there was a flown 500 mile class you would not in a million years get 50 birds entered to cover the cost, this would then have a knock on effect in the rest of the racing classes. For the majority of racing men it's more of a day out than taking there 500 mile pigeon that has been successful in the racing baskett.

This isn't realy relevent, some classes may have 100 entries but the prize money won't be £150! Overall the show clearly doesn't want to run at a loss and there are always high overheads to large shows, the main one being the hall hire cost! I'm sure if enough members get onto Russell Davidson (sec) the classes can be put on in the future! All Racer classes should be "Flown" this way it makes it fair for the racing men as all birds in the class will have had to have seen the basket and yes some may have been crossed but they will still have had to have been raced! When and if the classes are put on support them!
knoxjn Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 if some of you are not happy with the classes run it next year and do it the way you think it should be done am just happy to see it back
maverick Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 if some of you are not happy with the classes run it next year and do it the way you think it should be done am just happy to see it back when at the show look around and see who supports the show RACING MEN who all pay there cash to get in We are all glad its back but only 4 classes for the racing men is a bit harsh and i know the racing men have there racing and most admire the show birds and the condition of the birds and this is a big show for the showmen getting qualified for the blackpool show and yes they have there classes but as i have said before this must be the first time there has not been a 500 mile class in this show
pjc Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 when at the show look around and see who supports the show RACING MEN who all pay there cash to get in We are all glad its back but only 4 classes for the racing men is a bit harsh and i know the racing men have there racing and most admire the show birds and the condition of the birds and this is a big show for the showmen getting qualified for the blackpool show and yes they have there classes but as i have said before this must be the first time there has not been a 500 mile class in this show with the majority of large open shows where there are ttrade stands etc the majority of visitors will always be racing men and these shows wouldn't succeed if they didn't support them and pay there £3 at the door! When fanciers go to the big shows, Blackpool, Doncaster etc, how many actualy have a good look around the birds? The area that is never conjested will be the isles between the pens! Bar and trade stand area will be full but the show needs both sides to succeed! IMO

Taylorsloft Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 When you judge your not judging lice and sh"" if I like the bird that's good enough for me
