use to go when it was  in the usher hall i think,   ended up drunk watching different type of birds  strippers, and pole  dancers  in  and  around leith i think was easily lead in those days   what a show

Yeah agree Gary. Its back on so we'll support it but people's voices need to be heard and after all its a Racing Pigeon show but poor classes. The show racer birds have took over. It should have had at least 400/500 mile pigeons to cater for the national men as we all know it takes an entirely different type bird to fly 500 mile+ than just 200mile. They should have catered for this then it would have been perfect. I dont have any flown 500 mile birds so makes no diffrence to me but I think they have just let it down by not offering the class

 

It must be the first time this show has not had a 500 mile class for cocks and hens so 2 classes lost to the racing men but great to see it back on as a great 2 days to meet up with old friends and make new ones

I agree there should be equal classes for both racers and show racers but where does it say its a Racing Pigeon Show?Its being organised by show people who know from experience that a lot don't support the racer/flown classes and there is no point holding a class for a dozen birds!

But as i said there should be equal classes but it is being run by show men and they will look after there interests first.

How many clubs holding shows ever put on classes for show racers?

its up to you, the fancier to  request classes to be put on. but please support them. ive lost count of the times that classes have been requested at the shows that ive been involved in running, only to see them with very few or no entries at all.

Looking forward to the show and hope it will be well attended which i am sure it will be as there are fewer and fewer of these days in Scotland and fanciers are crying out for some were in Scotland to go during the winter months.

I remember Larkhall and one won the likeliest to win 500 mile cocks class and it was 100% show bird. It went on to win BIS, Eddie Newcombe judged the 500 mile hens,very good judge,

Have carried many of the 1st prize winners at Larkhall up to the top and the majority of likeliest to win classes were percentage show pigeons which were put up there by the best racing men in Scotland and the reason they were there was because of the condition these men put them in, also they had no fret marks, lice and sh** on the wings and tails which is what some of the racing men enter their pigeons like.

If you get a decent enough judge then he can pick out the dipped pigeons from the true racers, 9 times out of 10. I think there should be a 450 mile class at Edinburgh, flown certificates to be produced for all entrants.

This isn't realy relevent, some classes may have 100 entries but the prize money won't be £150! Overall the show clearly doesn't want to run at a loss and there are always high overheads to large shows, the main one being the hall hire cost!

I'm sure if enough members get onto Russell Davidson (sec) the classes can be put on in the future!

 

All Racer classes should be "Flown" this way it makes it fair for the racing men as all birds in the class will have had to have seen the basket and yes some may have been crossed but they will still have had to have been raced!

 

When and if the classes are put on support them!

with the majority of large open shows where there are ttrade stands etc the majority of visitors will always be racing men and these shows wouldn't succeed if they didn't support them and pay there £3 at the door!

When fanciers go to the big shows, Blackpool, Doncaster etc, how many actualy have a good look around the birds?

The area that is never conjested will be the isles between the pens! Bar and trade stand area will be full but the show needs both sides to succeed! IMO

thats what the racer classes need...good competent judges.guys who have kept or keep racing pigeons who know what there looking at.its no use having a show racer judge go over your birds, as he/she wont do them justice.

i reckon some of the guys on this forum would make a good job of judging .....go on have a go, you might like it.
