You need the right judge to sort them out although, sometimes the quality of racer might be that bad that you have no choice to give a half n half a ticket. ( this should be a minor card )

Delboy Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 It is all down to the judges, I think it is their responsibility to weed out these half show birds. Many judges lose credibility if they get caught out with these pigeons JMO

Guest Gareth Rankin Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 This is one of the problems why racing men are not participating in these shows and the shows over all numbers are decreasing, perhaps each show should have a expert that goes round and eliminates these half show pigeons from the racing classes before the judge gets a chance to judge them, all too easy for judges to take the easy option and pick these pigeons that should not be in these classes. Worked as a committee member of the Larkhall Pioneer show which averaged between 700 and 1000 birds and 60% of the top racing men in Scotland would put up to the top table a pigeon that had some degree of show pigeon in their blood.

Well Im in the other 40% Gareth. Sometimes it is very hard to tell and you can only summise some people are dabbling with show pigeons, in these cases you can get caught out but on the whole, a decent pigeon man will know the difference.

ALF Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 Seen plenty of dipped pigeons in the racing classes at the show on saturday and to be honest any time i have been judging i just walk right past them and dont give them a 2nd look never have never will but OMO
WulDon Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 bin the likeliest classes then? flown classes only? okay some will race the crosses also and then there entitlement to these classes will be valid.... create classes to entice show doo's only? these lads keep there birds all year like we do... difference being we have 20 plus races to compete from, lucky if there are six major shows in scotland now, so dont knock them not there fault who decides the classes, lets face it without there support there wouldnt be any shows in scotland... jmo.
