Delboy Posted July 20, 2020 Report Posted July 20, 2020 I've had 3 pigeons reported this year, 2 latebreds and a 2 yr old, also in its first year racing. All 3 were singled up from, 130, 140 and 200 miles and all made it home. All these pigeons were very inexperienced and still made it home without any help. Definitely food for thought, we know nothing about pigeons.
andy Burgess Posted July 21, 2020 Report Posted July 21, 2020 you be careful Del , remember about 4 years ago now i had 3 latebreds ,not trained atall . i raced them as yearlings . had only been in a basket for vaccination . 1 site member suggested i should be hung

big blue bar Posted July 22, 2020 Report Posted July 22, 2020 Never understand them , we put a yearling to peterbough WHO was reported at eyemouth earlier this year , (give him his due he was badly hurt), he was hurt as a ybird too and was reported in eyemouth ( different fancier) anyway i thought he was looking good so put him the 304 mls to peterbough and surpise surprise he was home to us on the day bit late but came past eyemouth :emoticon-0140-rofl:
Colin8 Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 I was at complete novice in 1980, I sent a late bred gifted to me, I got in Nov 79 raced inland and sent to beauvais, it came and won, I will never forget that day it was the first time I won and still have my little wooden trophy ðŸ†
Roland Posted July 23, 2020 Report Posted July 23, 2020 Remember, not so long ago Del Boy when you toyed/ tried a little in regards no training and just sending. If I remember correct, your results were every bit as good. Yes of course hard to balance. But then , why do we need to hammer the birds up the road? Certainly not to teach them the way home. Maybe to bring on the last spot of fitness if circumstances mean it was to bew done. Years ago the program from the birds flew shortest to the longest with great results.

Maybe to bring on the last spot of fitness if circumstances mean it was to bew done. Years ago the program from the birds flew shortest to the longest with great results. Just singled up my Gold cup candidates Roland and watched the peregrine chase my number 1 favourite up and down the sky, only inches from getting its kill. I zoomed home to find it on the board unscathed. So, what was the purpose of a 20 miler , only to scare the sh it out yer primed candidates and mentally destroy them at the last hurdle ? BOP IS DESTROYING THIS WONDERFUL SPORT. No mincing my words here, kill or be killed!!!
Roland Posted July 25, 2020 Report Posted July 25, 2020 Yes 100% I sadly agree. Owen, a great fancier, sadly no longer with us, went early in morning 10 miles. Of course used a valley as a pigeon will always use one if available - Had good returns regards just beating Percy home. 29 miles eh Delboy. Or 3 times a mile around the loft per mile! I heard tale often and laughed 'My birds are burning up the skies 2 hours and more'! Think they would be better of resting and saving that energy for the coming week - end race. Mine wouldn't be out after Wednesday if that was the case. Then the best result I every had was just letting out Sat Morning or in a race. As I often say, Many relate to the birds as Human and what they would do and like! J.M.O.
