Vaccinating Birds (P M V)

I had a few 'lessons' last year but was not very happy about where I was shown/expected to vaccinate birds. I vaccinated my own birds - but nobody elses last year - and vaccinated in a bit of loose skin by the side of the neck picking it up and jabbing in there, as the vaccination is 'subcutaneous' that means just under the skin, I wasn't happy doing the birds down the back of the neck ? What do you do? Does the position of the needle matter? (I also did them indoors sat on a chair :emoticon-0136-giggle: well - you have to be comfortable don't you?)

The way I vaccinate my birds are all caught up into the basket and one by one I hold them down on a table and pull down the neck feathers and swab too then inject in the neck but not too deep. So they been fine also I write their ring numbers into the book for records too.

I ask my Club Secretary to do mine. I hold them and reveal the neck, he vaccinates. He's been doing it for years, so never a problem. In Scotland, we require two Club members to sign the document, so it is witnessed by another member.

My mate Mik helps out when birds are due vaccination. I hold the birds, he gives the injection.

We had a vaccinator who did all the birds but he can no longer do them all birds are supposed to be witnessed and certificates signed accordingly, so now club needs volunteers to vaccinate! I'm asking for advice on technique and if it matters where bird is vaccinated, some birds were killed last year because birds were vaccinated incorrectly I obviously want to avoid that scenario!
