  1. I wood eat one of your pigeons but eating one of my own pigeons would be like eating my dog.
  2. I had planed to go with the money from the sale of my first round from stock but the guy who ordered them had problems at work and had to pull out. So here I am sitting at my computer having a cup of tea and remembering all the good times I had there.
  3. town pigeons can interbreed with Wood pigeons, male Common Pigeons (feral pigeon, Rock Dove) have produced fertile hybrids with female Wood Pigeons.
  4. I for one do not care if they clock 50 birds because if im not 1st then I have lost. 2nd 3rd 4th prizes do noting for me I am out to win. That may sound bad but it is how I feel about racing pigeons 1st and only 1st.
  5. Why would anyone want to be credited with 4th prize if their bird was 12 th. If a fancier has 11 birds in before me I could convince myself that I was 4th even if the club result showed that I was. Everyone talks about giving the new start a chance, it is the new starts I fear the most. They are the ones full of enthusiasm willing to learn and work hard and if they befriend a top flyer to give them the right advice you better watch out. My first year racing starting with young birds I won 12 out of 12 races I did not need years of experience to win. I took the advice of a top flyer R Hogg and to this day I still follow that advice.
  6. I live on the bank of a fishery and some of the guys that fish it have 20 to 30 rods Today's fisher men have as many rods as golfers have clubs.
  7. Successful racing birds come from both deep litter and lofts that are cleaned every day?. I clean every day because I personally like a clean loft not because the birds need one. Most of the fanciers on the continent keep their young birds on deep litter (pea straw) from the day they leave the nest until end of the season and their old bird are cleaned every day. I ask one of theses fanciers why he does not clean his young birds and he told me it gives him more time to play with them and that the young birds love the deep litter. He told me that one year he had two sections for the young birds. One section was clean and the other was deep litter, the door between the two sections was left open and all the young birds stayed in the section with the deep litter. He then went on to say that love of home was important motivation for the racing of young birds. Later in life motivation will be a partner or nest box.
  8. If it was feed then why do young birds that are fed 3 times a day still get it? If it was feed why does it not show on all the flights? why is it they only miss the feed when growing the first two or 3 flights as they are the ones with the fret marks? And as I have ask before why do summer reared young bird not miss this feed you say causes fret marks. Ask any fancier who rears young birds in a hot country or heated loft if the the young leaving the nest have fret marks.
  9. Yes you are right it is stress of one kind or the other and cold as I have pointed out can cause this stress.
  10. So are you saying the only time they miss a feed is when growing the first two flight? The fret marks are on the first two flights long before the cock is driving then hen back to nest. Do summer bred young birds not miss a feed? Why do single reared not have fret marks do they not miss a feed.
  11. The reason for the fret marks on nest mates and not on a single is this. When the young birds are just starting to grow the feathers they are at a stage were they are to big for the parents to cover both of them and keep them nice and warm. This results in the first fights having a fret mark. As they get older they get their own body feathers to keep warm and no more fret marks. It is not often you get fret marks in summer reared young birds and you never see it in single reared winter young birds as the parents can cover one in the nest better. I have proved this by putting heat in one section and not one young bird from that section had fret marks.
  12. The sissi one of the best breeders of all time.
  13. Not everyone has a T3 and I have not seen anyone complaining about the advantage the new none thimble flaps for a T3 can give over STB and other makes. ETS will let older fanciers stay in the sport that bit longer. Try catching a bird with a bad back or taking a rubber off with arthritis in you hands. I think it is great that the older man can sit in the warmth of his house and look out the window at his birds coming home on the cold wet days. Not everyone can be healthy and pain free and ETS can let the people who are not enjoy this sport a bit longer. A member of my club works on a Saturday until 1pm and some Saturdays the birds are home before 1pm if he did not have the ETS he would have to give up pigeon racing. PS you do not need ets to win races I do not have it yet but still won 12 last year.
  14. This has proved to be the best way of traping the birds as you can walk a bird in. If the traps are up high then you have to just wait if it wants to sit about.
  15. would it be ok then to have the pad inside the loft just under the front of the roof.
  16. Call him the 3 sum cock
  17. An antibiotic works by suppressing the immune system, a drug does not affect the immune system at all. But you are right the canker cocci and worms themselves can become immune to the drug you use.
  18. No not all medication effects the immune system there is a lot of medications that do not effect the immune system. Can you point me to a vet that tells you the treatment for canker cocci or worms will effect the immune system?
  19. If it is just a mark not wet, greasy, or a raised lump could it not be just making the mark some other way i.e. not sickness. I would rule out upper respiratory If the eyes are clear and the beak is closed tight.
  20. There are antibiotics and there are drugs, antibiotics can also be called a drugs but a drug cannot be called an antibiotic. It is a well known fact that if antibiotics are misused it will harm the immune system. The treatments for canker cocci and worms are a none antibiotic drug. The tree main things that make a pigeon ill are Viruses, Bacterial Infection, and internal / external Parasites. The 1st you cannot treat for so you prevent them by inoculating. The 2nd you treat with antibiotics and the 3rd with drugs or chemicals. Canker Cocci and worms are Parasites.
  21. Who said treating for canker worms or coxidosis effects the immune system.
  22. What age is the pair no point in letting them go down again if one of them has stoped filling.
  23. That is much better
  24. Think you need a pigeon in it somewhere as it could be seen as a logo for loft conversion company
  25. How about the guy who was putting the rubber ring on his mates pool bird each week. He put the leg into the ringer the rubber went on but as soon as the bird was put into the basket the rubber had gone. The trick was he had cut the leg of a dead bird and it was that leg that went into the ringer then into his pocket.
