  1. this actually happened to "me" bird came back just about landed on the roof batch went over and it went with them and was reported the next night in a loft approximately 100miles south east. The fancier who reported the bird son was a driver and he was coming up country a bit the following day so single tossed it from about 60 miles away and it bolted up the road no problems that bird taught me an awful lot , an awful lot!!

  5. What good will disinfecting do as he does not know what was troubling his birds! What if the birds were picking at something poisonous? Disinfecting will not do anything for any new birds he gets will it. Why ask for advice and then take the easy way out your pal almost certainly "disposed" of some perfectly healthy birds.
  6. Have you thought of asking some of the big feds to take you? what about Lanarkshire I believe one of your members has connections there, as in thats where he keeps his doos. You could be on to a winner there doosrus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    feather rot

There might not be one but it is a possiblity that with "spare" cocks charging around bossing each other around especially with a dowelled feeder that is not particularly clean between the dowels. The damage to the feathers is caused by physical damage. Give the feeder a good clean by which I mean a rub down with sandpaper to make it nice and smooth and the problem stops feeding them individually in their boxes does the same thing obviously. One thing I do know is that 9 times out of 10 damage like this is not caused by depluming mite its caused by daft young cocks going mad round the feeder. Its easily checked take one of the birds with damaged feathers to a decent vet and he can remove a few feather quills quick look down the microscope and he can tell you their and then.

Brilliant post Roland if i understand you correctly you are saying E = M.C squared am i right?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. How many birds did your pal "dispose" of as you put it?
  11. Revolutionary idea take some of the sick birds to an avian vet as soon as possible. Completely isolate the birds if at all possible i.e. lock them up individually in their boxes to minimise further transmission. Put milton in the water and if you have any pmv vaccine USE IT it may be something else but you might just be lucky. Better still if you have any amoxycillin USE IT and forget the milton and remember birds can recover from PMV and live to tell the tale. Good luck!

    how did you do?

do you have a team of sprinters bruno lad ? if the answer is no i would not worry too much . Winning races from 60 miles in the middle of april is all very well but if you excercise a bit of patience and wait for them to come into form naturally later in the season you will get your reward. Trust "me" And the Red Grizzle may turn up yet. Here's hoping as many of the birds having a chilly night out tonight manage to get back in the morning
